Homme also stated that previous drummer Joey Castillo had left the band. Grohl had featured on QOTSA's 2002 album Songs For The Deaf before stepping aside for 2005 LP Lullabies To Paralyze and 2007's Era Vulgaris. Homme spoke of his working relationship with the Foo Fighters frontman stating "[Grohl] and I have this wonderful musical relationship which we don't have with other people. It's a very cool and comfortable position."
A visual confirmation was made when the band posted their studio's mixing board with the names of the band's updated lineup. The group has already booked appearances at Lollapalooza Brazil and Chile and at the Download Festival.

This is welcome news. Dave is the man. Great drummer and a great guy, from what I've seen. Looking forward to the album. Songs for the Deaf was one I really enjoyed a decade ago.

His drumming is so much better. He is a really great hard hititng drummer in the vein of cozy POwell/ Ian Paice/ John Bonham. I dub myself Mr Realist.
