Something Wicked This Way Comes is the greatest heavy metal album of ALL TIME. In my opinion

It was one of my first metal CD's and so far no one has impressed me more. Each song is strong. Withouth the Wicked Trilogy at the end it would still be an amazing album but what makes it the BEST is that trilogy at the end. Wow. I think I just came in my pants.

Iced Earth is a great band Jon Schaefer is a rythm guitar machine live he makes almost no mistakes and he composes excellent songs. My favorite Iced Earth albums though would have to be Night of the Stormrider, The Dark Saga, and Burnt Offerings. Night of the Stormrider is probably one of the best thrash records ever recorded and The Dark Saga is a great concept album based upon Spawn. The latest album was really good aswell but althought Tim Owens is a great vocalist Matt Barlow was just so much better loosing him was a huge loss for the band.

Iced Earth are amongst my favorite bands, i go through phases where i listen to them all the time, and phases where i dont go anywhere near their albums.
But its wondeful news about IE, and i look forward to their next album. I think it will define Ripper now out of Matty's shadow. And congrats to Jon Schaffer on the kid.

I was the same when i first heard it too, didnt leave my player for weeks!

I like every album, and i love all 4 vocalists, they have been my favourite band for some time now.

Iced Earth are an amazing band. The Matt Barlow days were their best, although I think that their earlier albums with John Greely and Gene Adam are quite underrated though. I mean, the Barlow era was indeed their best, but sometimes it overshadows their first two albums, which I personally think were pretty good albums themselves, especially Night Of The Stormrider. Horrow Show, Burnt Offerings and The Dark Saga remain three of my favourites by these guys though. A Question Of Heaven is one amazing song.

I find myself constantly underwhelmed by Iced Earth. "Alive in Athens" is a great set, but it hasn't really inspired me to get anything else from their collection. I like it, but I don't quite get what draws so many people to them. When I listen to Iced Earth, it sounds like a slightly heavier Iron Maiden, only without the same enthralling solos or piercing inspiring vocals. This is, of course, to be expected, I'd want a band to do something different, and Iced Earth don't do their own thing badly at all.

Jon Schaffer just doesn't excite me. He's precise, that's for damn sure, and his tone is rock solid. His riffs and rhythms are untouchably sharp and tight. But outside of that, the whole Iced Earth sound gets old fairly quickly for me.

Don't misunderstand, I like the band, and I think it's awesome that they can attract such a hardcore group of dedicated fans, who I think have every right to applaud Iced Earth for their work. For my part, I've sampled their best, and think that's enough. So, unless anyone has recommendations for a more melodic slice of the Iced Earth catalogue, I think I'll be content with what I've got.

My favourite Iced Earth song is actually on The Horror Show, 'Wolf'.

Iced Earth are an awesome band. They were one of my first metal bands and I still love them. Too bad that they have been plagued by so many different vocal departures. Anyhow, I look forward to hearing the new material and I was so glad when they updated their site!

Iced Earth was one of my favourite bands when Matt Barlow was still on the vocals. Just the most amazing male voice I ever listend to.
The earlier stuff is also not bad.
I don´t like the voice of Tim Owens, so the new stuff is nothing for me.

I own a burned copy of the self-titled, and it isn't bad. They're a good band, albums such as Horror Show are good.

I got the "Night of the Stormrider" album (TAPE) in an underground music store in Sucre city (700 kms from La Paz aprox.) in 1993, it was in my walkman all the time, it was the best music I had listen !!!!, but i lost my walkman with the tape in it Some years after I knew other albums of Iced Earth and now I have all their albums (CD's except "Iced Earth", the first) included "Night of the Stomrider" I think the best albums of Iced Earth are "Night...." and "Burnt Offerings" and I'm very disappointed with "The Glorious Burden", it's boring!!!!

I have the re-issues of every older album. In fact, the only things I don't own are Horror Show, The Glorious Burden and sadly Alive in Athens. Killer heavy metal band, love it.

I disagree. I think Matt Barlow is THE Iced Earth vocalist. He had an incredible voice. Tim Owens has a more bland sound to me, he's not a bad singer.....just not Barlow status.

If I am correct, you're talking about The Glorious Burden and on right? If so, IMO the guy sounds too much like Bruce Dickinson [get off my ass].

As for Iced Earth...I believe 'The Phantom Opera Ghost' is one of the finest examples of musicianship I've ever heard! They used like 3 different guitars EACH in that song alone...and the drums are amazing. A true epic of a song.
