A surprising letdown. I remember hearing 'To New Ends' a while back and thinking it was some decent Mercyful Diamond worship, but on the whole the rest is a bit of a trudging, tuneless dirge. The songs just aren't that interesting and the guy's voice gets really irritating after a short while, not least because he seems to go off in his own direction messing up the tone quite a bit. He can hit the right notes when he wants too though, only he doesn't seem to want to anywhere near enough for me.
