Outside: CD-player with nice headphones.
Home: Winamp with either headphones later at night or just my decent-to-good computer speakers during the day.

CD is so retro. I used to burn a lot of them and then listen on the CD player. I still have a lot of them, they're just catching dust now, as it is far faster to redownload the thing again if I ever want to listen back to those.

As for myself, due to unfortunate events I'm now stuck with an ipod and its terrible excuse for program called itunes.
The sound the ipod phone makes is good though

Record player with great massive speakers or cd player with kinda decent speakers, when back home.

Otherwise I'm stuck with youtube (and bandcamp) on the computer, at least I have some good headphones.

I listen using CDs or Vinyls at home, but at work (which is where I am the majority of the time) or elsewhere, I listen to my music on my iPod. I have one of those iPod classics (the kind they discontinued recently) that has 160GB of storage, so I have every single album I own in lossless format on it. My only regret is that I have to deal with iTunes... fucking hate iTunes and ALAC.

Other than that, I prefer to stream from Bandcamp whenever possible, use Youtube when it is not, and will occasionally use Spotify or Soundcloud.

Subsonic streaming from a Linux server. At home it's flawless, instant access to anything in my collection, even total shit I have enough space to keep around, so why not? Go on a total shit binge every now and then, maybe?

On the road I use an app called DSub which (almost) gaplessly streams my music to me. If I want to check out a new band I use Amazon Music app to listen in on the free stuff. Then I just buy it if I like it. MP3 album anyway.

Mixed feelings about iTunes. It has ridiculous genre classes and random duplicates I have to go in and delete - pain in the ASS!!! But I quite like the playlists, the "Genius" app is decently good for metal. Based on Vintersorg I might get Beyond Creation, Borknagar, Obscura and Ne Obliviscaris as well. Pretty good! Different genres, but the songs actually fit a playlist quite well. Someone has done their homework, I just wish it wasn't a part of stupid iTunes!!!

Why do people hate iTunes?

It's just got a crappy layout, the store is crappy, the file types available in the store are extremely limited (I think everything you buy is in 320kpbs mp3?), and, worst of all, it doesn't handle lossless formats very well except for its own ALAC format, which isn't really compatible with any other device. If I ever want to put music on my phone, I'm going to have to either rip my CDs again, or I'm going to have to get a file converter to convert them to FLAC or something--it's going to be a massive pain in the ass either way.

I'm not one for "lossless" as I'd prefer to have more music vs absolute highest quality. Just a matter of storage and convenience (and streaming on a country drive, which I do a lot.)

320 sounds fine to me. As for iTunes it seems to manipulate your tags and arrange artists into folders (without your permission!!) so if you listen to Beastie Boys, anytime some rapper shows up for five seconds, or happens to do and, "AW YEAH!!" suddenly you have a folder and an "album" just for them with one song on it where they did their, "AWW YEAH!!!"

Then I'm like who the Hell is this?! Just a pain in the ass for me, especially since every hip-hop album has, like, 48 people on it anyway.

Why do people hate iTunes?

In addiction to what Jaeryd said it also "thinks" it is smart enough to build by its own the folders in order to organize the music, so that in theory the user could just add the music to the library and the albums would automatically be there and you wouldn't have to do anything.

Guess what?? It's NOT SMART AT ALL! Almost every album I add there will be separate into two or more albums sometimes with different authors names/etc and I won't be able to find shit when opening the stuff on my ipod.
There are two solutions to this: I could modify all my fucking songs of every album I own in my computer, by clicking right and modifying the properties for each of the freaking files, and set the authors/album names straight, so it would organize well.
I could also make a lot of "customized playlists" on my ipod, with the correct order of the albums.

Both these options seem far too tiresome though.. Now I ask you: Wouldn't it be FAR better if the software simply let the work for me me and made me able to add whole folders to it instead? But nah... I wanna be "smart" for the user.

annnd, one day you will update itunes and itunes will decide to delete all the music you haven't purchased from itunes

Online it's mostly Bandcamp, Soundcloud, and Youtube for me. On the go I have an iPod, as much as I hate iTunes and agree with most of what's said about it. Pretty much the only reason I still use it is because an iPod is really the only portable thing I have that can hold all my music at once, so I let my frustration go after a while for the sake of that convenience. I'd rather have brutal shit to work out with at the gym or groovy shit to bike around town to with shit software as a trade off than not have it at all, I guess.

Biggest downside of all to iTunes though is that if it fucks up, and that's the only place you're storing all your music... it's not impossible to get it back, but it is an extreme pain in the ass between having to locate your folder with your music again (it's usually invisible to start with), re-import, and then even when you do import, the tracks are usually encoded in a random series of numbers and letters so you don't even know what's what. I'm in the process of putting all my music on an external hard drive as a backup in case iTunes wants to pull some shit

Gotta say I really do like the iTunes layout though, I disagree with it being crappy. Especially nice is the option that allows you to display your albums by year of release, because that helps me a lot with keeping track of all the things I've listened to/have yet to listen to from the current year... they're right there at the top of the page

Good question.
At home: I don't tend to listen to a lot of music on my computer, mainly because I'm too lazy to get my headphones out and because I use my computer more for work related things (coding, school assignments, etc.). I can't listen to music and work at the same time, unfortunately. That said, I find new music either by exploring GetMetal or by investigating Metal Storm/Prog Archives recommendations and I transfer it to my iPod instead of listening to it on my computer directly. One exception: YouTube is exceptional for finding lots of full prog and krautrock albums, so I will often listen to those albums with my headphones on my computer. iTunes isn't that bad and I don't listen to lossless music really. I'm not exactly sure I gave lossless music a chance, but I highly doubt it will make my experience with my favourite albums even better. I have to agree with the earlier assessment that the convenience of storing lots of music outweighs the added quality you'd get from the lossless music. I've backed all of my music up on an external hard drive just in case.
Outside: my iPod with headphones. I just love how the sound can just enclose you with headphones, although you still have to be somewhat aware of your surroundings with all of the bad drivers here. I actually listen to music more outside than in the comfort of my own home.
