my faves are fantasy and politics, with bands like megadeth, iced earth, maiden and sepultura having my favourite lyrics, like on "dante's inferno", "phantom of the opera", "the bard's song", "the power of one" are all wonderful songs, and "holy wars", "hangar 18", and "refuse resist", just straight out flaming, bitching and lashing about what's wrong and what their problem is.
i choose fantasy though, since it's a more imaginative field, you can just go totally mindfuck random and no one will bother assessing the reality behind your lyrics, not like in politics where most of the inspiration comes from real events.

Psychologial, 'intelligent'. Some deep meanings are good, but sometimes a band needs lyrics like 'Fuck Jesus, Hail Satan'. Depends on the genre and band, mainly.

Well, I voted for introspective/psyhological/sentimental. I don't like if music is connected with religion or believes (but I still like pagan bands ), fantasy lyrics are the cone that cheer me up, so that would be also one of the choice....

I voted for religious/spiritual but if not I would of chosen Gore/sci fi. Lyrics about assyrian, mesopotamiam and norse gods, heathenry, blasphemy, and to some extent even christian lyrics are the most interesting to me. They also give a cultural aspect sometimes to the music and adds a contrast to stuff like Black metal or Death Metal that just sounds great. With Gore lyrics, usually my favorite old school DM bands use those types of lyrics and it fits in perfectly. I hate politics.....surrounded by it everyday, and when a band imposes their political ideology in their music, it makes me not want to listen to it. But there are exceptions..satanism..erm, well IMO that falls into the category of religious/spiritual.

I can't vote, as I am torn between three themes. Spiritual/Religious, Historical, and Politics. I like pagan lyrics because I myself am a pagan, and I apreciate the recognition. IN my oppinion both Norse and Satanist lyrics should go under this category. I love history, it's my favorite subject, and as such I am entertained by songs such as "Alexander the Great." And Politics is a great theme because of all the focus on social issues.

It's a decision between politics and horror/sci-fi/fantasy for me. My favorite lyrics are Iced Earth, Cattle Decapitation, Burzum, Dying Fetus, Megadeth, and Iron Maiden lyrics. I am not going to vote because i simply cannot come to a decision. I will post later if I do end up making a decision. Great topic btw.

i couldn´t vote for an specific type of lyrics, but the ones i prefer above the others: sci-fi/fantasy pagan/historical sentimental (but in the most poetical way possible) in some way my musical taste is resumed in those kinds of lyrics, so you could imagine what i like

27.03.2007 - 12:41 Written by Arian Totalis on 27.03.2007 at 02:54 yeah, but you see, if someone likes a band/song that has just plain spitiritual lyrics like let's say iced earth-the pierced spirit or last december or something, and then you have all the black metal bands screaming "i serve satan, i serve darkness wraagh wraagh diechristianscumbagssuckmyfuckingdemonicnecrosataniccock" and it just doesn't fit. i don't see any stryper fans around here but come on, some satanic lyrics are just so cheesy and crappy they're hardly spiritual. and if someone just likes buddhist lyrics(lol) in songs, he can vote religious, but if he just likes a little biblebashing and christ raping(which aren't quite "spiritual" if you ask me), he can vote satanic, or if he likes viking warriors with big hammers and valhalla's great hall, he can vote norse(which i didn't mean to put under anything, but in a "league of its own")

27.03.2007 - 17:26 Written by Valentin B on 27.03.2007 at 12:41 I think that there is a differrence though...for instance behemoth has lyrics that are based on thelema which is a form of satanism and IMO his lyrics approach satanism on a religious level, then theres morbid angel which also does something similar.

28.03.2007 - 01:29 Written by Valentin B on 27.03.2007 at 12:41 Well, I think there is a difference between Actual inteligent satanist themes and stereotypical "I Will burn a christian village." But I suppose it is hard to seperate the two. By the way, Lolz on the "diechristianscumbagssuckmyfuckingdemonicnecrosataniccock"

28.03.2007 - 01:50 Written by Arian Totalis on 28.03.2007 at 01:29 There are some really intelligent written satanic lyrics out there.. but sometimes they get overshadowed by the crap released by some more mainstream bands. A band like Mütiilation is a good example of intelligent satanic lyrics, a band like Dark Funeral is an example of laughable satanic lyrics. About the topic itself. Psychological, emotional, or just simply experience, are all lyrical themes I really love. I mainly like the negative side of lyrics. I don't know why, but I love it when a band knows to describe a negative emotion of mine really well. I can most easily connect to that type of lyrics. Some bands with my favourite lyrics are Anorexia Nervosa, Mütiilation, and some non-metal bands with depressive lyrics. I am also someone who love fantasy lyrics(hey, I just love Rhapsody and Luca Turilli..) but I will not vote for that one, simply because I feel more for the songs that are emotionally similar to how I feel. Fantasy lyrics are awesome, but they are just good for escaping reality. They don't really give any support or anything.

Introspective/psychological/sentimental, especially "sentimental" and romantic themes (not "romantic" such as "love", but the romantic genre). Those with inner struggles, feelings, and more. And most likely "intelligent" as Nervel said.

28.03.2007 - 11:39 Written by Arian Totalis on 28.03.2007 at 02:07 Into Eternity? I will check them, haven't heard them yet. And about doom metal, I think they are exagerating in their negativity. Some doom metal bands have really good lyrics, but most of them are just exagerating the entire depressive thing, which makes it either laughable or just sound silly. Thanks for the recommendation, but personally I think Doom Metal isn't the best genre when it comes to negative lyrics.

I wont vote. Its a bit difficult to make up my mind really. Some bands are really suited to some lyrics. Well you wouldn't expect Mayhem or Cannibal Corpse or something to sing about Sentimental stuff. Generally I like introspective/psyhological/sentimental the most although Fantasy, Historical, Spiritual, Satanic and Call-to-Arms can be good as well.

Fantasy mainly, sentimental on second. Because my fav. Subgenres are Power and Gothic (I'm getting into Suomi as well). I'm a big fan of Tolkien but also Shakespeare so I'm like a mixture between romantic and epic. But since I've been related with PM and fantasy longer than with teh other stuff, I voted Fantasy.
