Their best release to date IMO. I feel like some might not enjoy the production, but I love how chaotic it sounds.

I must admit, I find most slam bands too much of a one trick pony but this is sick. I haven't listened too all of Devourment's albums but this is the best of what I've heard.

Devourment isn't the name you look up when you want to hear some innovative emotionally charged music, but you still expect a band of this magnitude in the scene to develop something with at least a hint of technical maturity. Instead, this album feels uninspired, put forth by a band trying to stay relevant -- having stagnated over a decade ago -- while their contemporaries pass them by in every aspect aside from nostalgia.

With hardly a single note of variation, it becomes incredibly difficult to tell each song apart, which is made even more difficult due to the murky production style. It's like they performed this in an underwater cave while a construction crew worked overhead. If that's what they wanted then good for them, but I can't help but feel like this was either a cost-cutting measure or an unintended mistake that couldn't be fixed. This of course isn't to say the old school style of gritty production is inherently bad, but perhaps they could have gone for something just a tad more crisp to highlight the guitars... only then you would need a reason to highlight them.

If you enjoy being beaten over the head with a noisy hammer in a repetitive pattern while someone screams at you in a monotonous guttural growl, this comes highly recommended. But if you'd prefer technical soloing, some melodic riffs, a dash of groove, or maybe even some unorthodox non-metal instrumentation in your brutal death metal, then avoid this without any regrets. It offers nothing but mind-numbing brutality for the sake of it.

Gave this another spin for the first time in several months and boy, is it unrelenting! Better than I gave it credit for last year and I can understand why it ended up on so many end of year lists. Unlike the poster above, I actually like the production and there is groove as I often find myself head banging and air drumming to the slams. Admittedly it requires repeat listens for the highlights to stand out.

Bulldozer of an album! Could probably lose one track and the mastering didn't need to be this brickwalled, otherwise excellent stuff.

Oh boy, is this ugly, filthy and fucking heavy. Monstrous album, a perfect piece of brutal death metal. Btw, lyricwise 'Truculent Antipathy' might just have the biggest plot twist in the history of death metal songs
