I can't believe nobody has started a Megadeth thread yet. Not only are they a well-known thrash band, but there's always been so much controversy around them because of the Mustaine-haters.

Have fun discussing.

I love Megadeth. They had a little bit of a decline with albums 'Risk' and 'The World Needs A Hero' but they showed the world that they can still make admirable music with 'The System Has Failed'. I love that album. Such a powerful opener.

It's hard to disagree, Hangar 18 is amazing. and all of Rut in Peace is legendary thrash.

First metal band I listened to. Does anyone else think KIMB is overlooked? I personally think it is their best album, most thrashiest album they've produced.

Well, R.I.P. is a personal favourite, but I can listen to any album before Cryptic Writings(including it). I'm no ttoo much of a fan of the others. The System Has Failed was okay I guess. Definately a better effort than the other newer ones, but I'm still not too much of a fan of that album.
They were a very consistent band, delivering awesome albums until CW, where Mustaine tried to hop aboard the Metallica train IMO. And despite CW being a good effort, Risk turned out to be a paltry disaster. Anyway, Megadeth will always be a special band for me. They were one of the first bands I heard when I was getting into metal.

Megadeth are one of the first metal bands i hrd and they are awesome. their earlier albums Rust In Peace, Killing Is My Business, Peace Sells are amazing. They had deviated a bit like most thrash greats but System Has Failed was again a very good release by them which i enjoyed very much.
The worst Album being Risk.

KIMB is probably overlooked because of the bad production. Howver, it is a great album and has some Megadeth classics such as the album title track and 'Mechanix'.

Peace Sells...But Who's Buying? is a REAL masterpiece, IMO it beats Master Of Puppets anytime: MOP is quite boring with its lengthy songs, in Peace Sells there is no idle moment at all! Peace Sells also beats another Megadeth classic, Rust In Peace easily.

Well, after RIP they changed their stile, aiming at the attention of the big masses, although to a slightly lesser degree than Metallica. "Countdown To EXtinction" was actually a very good album, but after that the quality of their works has been on the decrease...unfortunately

Well, with them I entered into the Thrash Metal, so for me Rust In Peace is the best thrash album ever. And of course, I hate Metallica xD

Megadeth, the band I grew up with as a metalhead, and the band I can always return to. Somehow when I listen to them again it feels like going back home haha. Yeah, this band made me a metalhead and I will never regret it that on one day I grabbed Peace Sells and asked to listen to it in the store Love on first sight

One of my favorite ever, I love Megadeth. Their first albums: "Killing is my Business.....", Peace Sells.....", "So Far, So Good....." and "Rust in Peace" are true Thrash Metal. "Countdown to Extintion", "Youthtanasia" and "Cryptic Writings" are a litlle less strong but all of those are very good albums, then "Risk", nothing to say.... "System has Failed" is a very good album. The best line up of Megadeth was Dave Mustaine, Dave Ellefson, Nick Menza and Marty Friedman.

I like "Peace Sells" and "Rust in Peace" - but, imho, "Countdown" and "Youthanasia" were abominations - I really didn't like either of them. They were, to me, every bit as disappointing as "the Black Album" or "Load"... I haven't listened to anything by them since.

Yeh, thats the thing... some people may really hate an album, or most in Risks case, whereas a minority may like it... Just shows how hard it is to review...

yeah true, but im just confused because i can usually see where people are coming from when they dislike something, but i dont get whats so horrid about it, yeah it may not have been the best album, but i dont think it really deserved the drasticaly low score it got.

Yeh, I find that, many people tend to 'follow' the reviews in magazine/websites etc to form their own opinion....

Dave is suppose to be putting together Gigantour 2. Gigantour for anyone who doesn't know, was a festival Dave put together to have some of the best up and coming guitar players or technical bands come play together. The first one, aka in 2005, had Nevermore, Dream Theater, Anthrax, and Megadeth. There were a couple other bands. This year seems to be taking alittle different route, if the news is true, with a line up of Megadeth, Anthrax, Overkill, and Judas Priest.

I don't know about you guys, but I remember awhile ago, Dave had cancelled some shows I believe in Israel, because one of the bands on the bill was anti-Christian. He's recently discovered God, after along time of being a boozer, drug user, and then the whole thing with his broken arm. He really got serious, and apparently won't play venues with bands that deal with Satan, anti-christian values, or act in some manner. So he kind of comes off as a prick now to people. I wanted to know if he has done anything else like that?
