Swedish black metal operatives Lord Belial and Hammerheart Records have signed a new contract. Lord Belial announced being an active band again in 2020 and will enter the studio this summer to record their 9th full length album, the first one after 2008. This is up for a release in the beginning of 2022. Currently, the line up is formed by the three founding members Micke Backelin (drums), Niclas Pepa Green (guitars) and Thomas Backelin (guitars & vocals).

I can't really say "great news" because their last albums were really dull, but I'm curious anyway.

Love "Enter The Moonlight Gate", and even "Unholy Crusade". Otherwise only "The Black Curse" showed some promise. So causiously hopeful for this!

What have they been doing all this time to maintain their writing and performing abilities? From what I can tell they've been completely stagnant on a professional level, so the only practice they have in the past decade would be jam sessions, replaying old material, maybe some pre-covid karaoke...

Unless they have a bevy of pent-up new ideas and play the shit out of it within the next 6-8 months, I don't think this will do well. But I've learned not to underestimate the geriatric community, lest a crow finds its way into my diet.
