Whitin Tamtaition once start as enthusiastic singing band when after few album they become much better. Same here seems after few album band wrote their best, good mix, studio work, music, vocal balance, lyrics. Well quastion is this band member metal musician and listeners or they just play it. To listen and play is more key factor to be successful

00:45 into the album I get a PotC vibe.. unfortunately it doesn't remain during the rest of the album.
I also wish they did a cover for 'Hoist the Colors'.

Really fucking good album. Gonna come back to this one, so many powerful songs and good variance in the speed of songs.

An interesting pirate concept, with some epic symphonies and melodies, and really nice vocals too. As symphonic metal albums go this is a good one, but it does take time to sink in at first.

Call me old-fashioned, but metal bands should write their music themselves.

Best VoA release since Trinity. I've always found this band to be on the 'meh' scale of power and symphonic metal but this album is surprisingly decent.

Once again, a band I did not really liked that release an album that I've already listened 10+ times. Very good, not exceptional surely, yet very solid.

I'm curious about your source because this info is definitely wrong! Most of the music and lyrics of "Pirates" were written by Clémentine Delauney & Michele Guaitoli who are the singers of VoA.

I see, but how do you want to know that the songs weren't 90% written by Michele or Clemi? Felix Heldt is their producer and for sure he had a part of it, but it's not said he had the most share of it. It's normal in the music industry that a producer when he made small changes gets credits for it as co-writter even he change maybe just one note.

I don't, actually. I don't care about this band. But because songs are noted as written by Heldt and Felder only I suppose this is how it is?

Very pretty sounding album. Some great vocal work. Guys, do check out Clementine's work in Exit Eden also.

I missed this album when it came out. In fact, I managed to miss most of what was released between 2015 and 2025. When I finally forced myself to make up for it, naturally, I started by looking at the bands that I already knew and was quite surprised that Visions of Atlantis (which I mostly remembered by Cast Away and gave up on somewhere around Delta & Ethera) is still around - and doing very well at that.

When I first listened to Pirates at the start of 2026, I thought it was an 8 at most. It sounded good, poppy in a good way, but seemed to have nothing I didn't hear before. Every song felt ok but I couldn't name any of them as a definite highlight. Then I kept checking out the missing parts of other bands' discographies, trying to find the best parts that I missed... and I kept listening to Pirates once in a while... until I realized that it IS the best. Literally no other symphonic metal band, big name or not, have released anything even close to this level of quality in the last 10 years.

4 months later, I still can't get enough of Pirates. I don't know how much longer it will last me, but it is maybe the best proof that sometimes, you don't need to be original to create a masterpiece. You just need to know what you want to do, and do it perfectly. This album has a perfect opener and a perfect closer. Master the Hurricane is a perfect song start to finish. Heal the Scars is a perfect ballad with incredibly emotional vocals. Darkness Inside is THE perfect pop song that still keeps giving me flashbacks every time, like it's a combination of some extremely famous songs I have heard hundreds of times decades before but just can't put my finger to... almost The Final Countdown, but with something extra in the mix?

Most other songs at least have perfect choruses, too - if they don't get stuck in your head on first listen, they certainly will after the third. Even silly moments can become highlights (like that "I surrender my lord, I have broken my sword" line I kept chuckling to until I realized that I can no longer forget it). There are other small details that I keep noticing and enjoying immensely on repeated listens (like that "shalalai ever be reborn" part in I Will Be Gone - gives me goosebumps every time, just like "from my god it will depart" in the original Sleeping Sun).

This band might just be the record holder for number of vocalist changes (considering they've always had two, and changed 8 in total). And they have finally found a combination that works perfectly. It is simultaneously a return to the classic VoA's Cast Away formula I used to love them for a long time ago, a vast improvement both musically and vocally from the previous albums, and a release that just begs to be called the best Within Temptation album since The Silent Force, except WT had nothing to do with it.

Pirates good

Bold, I respect it. If you like symphonic metal I'd point out Against Myself as my favourite overlooked band.
