Top finds from 2022 as I'm working my way through the backlog built by a couple of months of mental absence, loosely ordered but with a passing semblance of meaning to the numbers... A work in progress, obviously.

1. Kuolemanlaakso - Kuusumu
Everything there is to love about metal and then some. AOTY.
2. Vanhävd - Vila
Most promising debut album, still growing on me.
3. Watain - The Agony & Ecstasy Of Watain
Finally on par with Lawless Darkness.
4. My Sleeping Karma - Atma
Best substitute for actual weed, maybe the best MSK album.
5. Déhà - Decadanse
Most danceable metal album.
6. Imperial Triumphant - Spirit Of Ecstasy
Most likely to scare off unwanted visitors.
7. Deathspell Omega - The Long Defeat
Most danceable DsO album (this, of course, means nothing).
8. Jordfäst - Av Stoft
Mid-era Watain mixed with pagan metal, and great storytelling to boot.
9. Kostnatění - Oheň Hoří Tam, Kde Padl
Badass (and only?) Turk-folk-disso-black. Thanks, Karlabos.
10. Besna - Zverstvá
Somehow making folksy post-black sound rather fresh.
11. Änterbila - Änterbila
Very promising debut, refreshing punky take on the old folk-black sound.
12. Black Fucking Cancer - Procreate Inverse
Best band name, good Casus Luciferi-ish stuff.
13. Die Apokalyptischen Reiter - Wilde Kinder
DAR by the numbers is still good music.
14. Cult Of Luna - The Long Road North
CoL by the numbers is still good music.
15. Wilderun - Epigone
I overrated this one, but still impressive storytelling through music.
16. Amorphis - Halo
Amorphis by the numbers... you get it.
17. Zeal & Ardor - Zeal & Ardor
Just as memorable as uneven.
