Soen - Release 'Snuff' (Slipknot Cover) Video

Swedish metal supergroup, Soen, have released a video for their interpretation of the Slipknot classic, “Snuff”. The track is taken from the forthcoming release Atlantis, out via Silver Lining Music on November 18. Atlantis is a special concert film featuring thirteen of the group’s most popular compositions reinterpreted with live orchestral accompaniment at Atlantis Grammofon Studio in Stockholm, Sweden. The album is available for pre-orders here.

Founding members Martin Lopez and Joel Ekelöf on "Snuff": "We wanted to do something extra special during the Atlantis concert. The obvious path would have been to pick an epic progressive song from the likes of Genesis, Pink Floyd etc. Instead, we went for the opposite with 'Snuff', a scaled down and brutally honest song that we all love in its powerful sincerity."

Atlantis tracklist
01. Antagonist
02. Lunacy
03. Monarch
04. Trials
05. River
06. Jinn
07. Illusion
08. Modesty
09. Lucidity
10. Savia
11. Fortune
12. Snuff
13. Lascivious
14. Lotus

A lot of chosen songs for covers are so cliché, it's ridiculous. How many Led Zeppelin Rock'nRoll or Immigrant Song covers do i have to hear for example? Zeppelin has like 8 albums, and yet, bands cover the same thing.

Unpredictable choices are more interesting IMO. I don't even listen to Slipknot and i got no problem with the Soen cover.

Nah this cover sucks compared to the original, but then I never thought highly of this band anyway; Always felt like a poor man’s Tool.

A metal band doing a Britney Spears cover is just tongue in cheek kind of fun. Marillion did a Britney cover live, of a song called Toxic. They seem to have fun doing their own thing with the song.

So does Soen with this cover.

"Poor man's Tool" has a very negative connotation. Call it Tool pastiche, I think it's more fair (for lack of a better word).

Well, that would be a very good buzzword to use if I believed the quality was on par with the original, but I don't, so "poor man's Tool" it is.

COB were known for doing unusual covers just for fun. And you can clearly feel it from Britney Spears cover as well. This is different, because Soen does that with all seriousness. With all those arrangements, orchestra and stuff.

To each his own. But I feel that they are getting popified in the sense that the rest of the band is there only to support the singer. You just cannot deny that in Leprous's case. And it seems that, with this single at least, Soen is following in the same footsteps.

It seems like what you truly dislike is the emphasis on vocal melodies instead of an emphasis on rhythm changes, riffs, etc. I think the latter is why so many people considered them a "Tool clone," and I'm inclined to agree with them. Yes, their music is less technical now, but they also have their own sound now, and I've always personally been more focused on melody in music - everything else is of secondary importance. If you're the opposite, that explains the difference in opinion.
