As a fan of Akphaezya, Fell Down The Veil (Anthologies I, III & V) may be their best album yet! I think it will be my album of the year for 2024.
At first, I was surprised and then worried by the announcement of this new album; however, after some time listening to it, I must say that it is far beyond the quality of their other records. The music is amazing, and the concept story is pure genius, explaining the basis of the Anthology titles, the background of the name Akphaezya, and other things too.
Some songs are pure prog, such as "T.R.O.Y." or "Rapture", while others are more avant-garde in the style of the band's earlier songs ("At Shyrya", "A Nauseating Blend" "Dissociative Identity Disorder"). "Echo Of Tomorrow" is something in between, with crazy vocals that remind me of "Utopia", but also some prog/djent and neo-metal vibes. The last song, "Other Face", is like an explanation (as Morgan Freeman used to do at the end of a movie) of the whole concept, but with a post-rock/metal ambience.
All in all, I find in Fell Down The Veil everything that made me love this band: diversity, originality, some craziness (but not too much - more like a Stolen Babies rather than a "too-many-things-at-once" Unexpect thing), prog vibes, and more. The production is huge, with groovy bass and sharpened guitars.
I encourage you to listen to it more than just one time and to read the booklet (ask the band, they sent me a pdf).
Favourite songs: "At Shyrya", "Dissociative Identity Disorder" and "T.R.O.Y.".
