Welp, that really sucks. This is one of those cases where I rather have the band just end and the important pillars each start their own thing.
I only saw Katatonia once back when Dead End Kings was released. It was an excellent show. I did enjoy some of the deeper cuts but yeah, it's a shame they never did much of the older stuff. Man that was back in 2012. Feel a bit old now haha.

Devastating, yet not unexpected, given that Jonas was the only songwriter on the post-hiatus records. Impossible not to compare this to the Brent Hinds situation.

But as a fan of all eras of the band, I'm looking forward to new music from both parties. Hope it won't be long in coming

So bands should split up once you don't like them anymore. I don't know if this is mean-spirited, narcissistic or just a dumb thing you said.

I was briefly debating some weeks ago wether to see them in Copenhagen by the end of the year or not but honestly with Anders gone there is less chances to hear some of the old tracks so I better pass and hope for Anders to form a band that can play some of the old stuff although that wouldn't be the same without Jonas either.

I'm pretty sure I've read the same comment at least 10 times in the past years, for example when talking about bands like The Gathering or Anathema. Will someone ever be able to make him understand how dumb this comment is?

Sorry lads those bands dont play metal anymore, if I dont want listen non metal I do blues, jazz, country and oldies, but not pop bands

Not the worst news. From what Anders wrote I sense a possibility of the new Diabolical Masquerade which would be great.

Unfortunate that this happened, but I completely agree with Anders on this. You should never neglect your roots/history. They should've included their early death/doom songs not only in their live shows, but they should've incorporated that style in some of their newer songs as well.

I've seen them live twice, and only in the first show did they play an older song, Murder, which really got the crowd going. The rest, as much as I like the "newer" era too, was pretty damn boring.

Last Good Katatonia's Album was Night is The New Day ...But still Tonight Decision my Fave..Cant be bothered with anything after 2009....

I don't wish for Katatonia to break up, I love Brave Murder Day since the day it came out, but the way they're clogging up the scene now with their incredibly boring music can honestly be pretty annoying.

People are allowed to have personal opinions. Meanwhile, other people are allowed to call those opinions what they are, as John_Doe aptly described.

As someone who actually prefers the newer prog/alt rock side of Katatonia over their older gothic/doom stuff, this still sucks to hear. The wording of this statement make their parting sound like it wasn't exactly amicable, and if what someone else here said is true and most of the newer stuff being played live these days was solely written by Jonas, then I don't blame Anders for leaving. All power to him

I mean, look, Jonas turns 50 in a couple months. He was never good at extreme vocals. And he knows that. Yet he's very, very good at clean vocals, he's got his own easily recognizable style and delivery. I completely get why they don't play the old stuff - because he just can't do that, at least at the level he wish it was. I saw some live videos of Brave and it's just unbearable to watch. So I get why he's doing what he's doing and why, and honestly I love that for him.

But I also understand Anders, and agree with him too. It feels like they didn't talk through a lot of things.
It's simply two different worlds and directions. And something makes me wonder how the hell did they manage to stay together for that long at all. Heroes

First five is all I need from them, so if Anders is planning something similar to those I'm all in. I've given a few of the post 2000 albums a go and they're not for me

Damn, there are still people that decide which bands to listen to based on how “metal” they are.

Glad for Anders to be off on his own again. Definitely feeling like he was sinking further and further into the background as Jonas has settled into his prog emo songwriter thing.

Wonder if Anders gets along any better with Fred Norrman these days. I really felt the loss of the Norrman brothers and think it would be great if Anders and Fred could get together on some new music.
