I don't want to write a wide monologue about how i feel about the band, so i'll just give you the short version:
Satyricon: you should all know them! they've been my favourite band for quite a long time, it's hard to decide which album attracts me the most, but i'd say it's DMT. Many people don't like their later material (after Nemesis Devina), but come on Rebel Extravaganza is also a masterpiece, the main problem about this album is that it comes after their legendary 3rd album - Nemesis Devina. But i'd call RE a great example of moderen black metal that is not yet sell-out. About Vulcano - yeah, it's not that good album, but still there are some good songs to be found on it. After this album we all hoped that Satyricon would return to their roots, but they turned in totally different direction- towards mtv
So i guess that is a fatal downfall, for the Kings of Black metal
Sad ending of a story... But i have i wonderful news for my Slovenian friends! I've heared Satyricon are coming to Slovenia this autumn!! (sorce: http://www.rockthenation.at/index.php?id=37)

Now, Diabolical certainly isn't their best album, but I enjoy it more than their other albums. The production quality is great and the riffs are awesome, especially on the first track. The poor recording quality on their early albums dissuade me to listen to them, but they are without a doubt their strongest albums. Rebel Extravaganza is a really weird album with odd song structures, and I haven't heard Volcano. I actually think that they should re-record Nemesis Divina, but not over-produce it.

I personally can't find the deal with "Nemesis Divina", I find that album extremely overrated and the electronic elements added just don't work... the song Mother North can be an anthem, but I don't find it particulary attractive... the vocals in that album are also badly done, they hurt the ears.

I'm just soooo happy for "finding" Satyricon again... I haven't been listening to blackmetal for several years now (I've gotten too old...) and when I heard KING I was amazed I liked it. I've liked whole Now Diabolical as I like Volcano. Anyway, I have always been lousy on putting labels to the music I listen, so I don't care what this current Satyricon is being called as... I liked them ten years ago and i like them again now. I think that's cool

The only part I really like in Satyricon is the folky stuff they made on "Dark Medieval Times" and there were some nice riffs on "The Shadowthrone". Don't like much else, Nemesis Divina is rather bland and I don't enjoy most of their Black 'n Roll type stuff.

Finally, after they have cancelled their gig at Metal Camp 06, Satyricon is coming to Ljubljana pritty soon. Though I'm more into their older stuff (DMT is like adiamond to me, it just transferred me into a special all kinds of emotions), I'm anxiously waiting to see them live. Even with their new stuff. I already own a ticket. Be there.

23.09.2006 - 21:01 Written by matos on 10.09.2006 at 23:38 Okay, I saw them last Thursday... But first had to struggle through a generic set of gothenburg 4th rate Dark Tranquillity music, namely Insomnium, all that was okay about them was the live drum sound, but that was it. Up next were Keep of Kallessin, whom I had given up after the release of Armada which I find utterly boring generic overproduced bm. But live they were stomachable, at least they sounded rawer than on album (and this gave them the so much needed extra power) but after 40 minutes they were utterly boring too. But then for the main act, fuck, damn, man, they blew the audience away (the concert was in a sold out 400 people club and everybody was there to see Satyricon) one and a half hours of pure bm bliss. ALthough I love Now, Diabolical (the album) the songs were even better live, they just had more punch and even (dare I say it?) swung like mad, they almost ahd me dancing Of course Satyr made the crowd sing along to the guitarline of Mother North again. A true Iron Maiden Bruce Dickinson moment here, but that worked really well, he got the crowd invloved and was quite talkative. Of course the main eyecatchers were Satyr and Frost, but for a horny old man like me the true eyecatcher was Jonna Nikula behind the keyboard banging her blond longhaired head away. The rest of the live members (I believe they are from Spiral Architect and Keep of Kallessin but am not sure) were very good indeed. And the sound was perfect, you could hear ALL the instruments clearly, also the vocals. Even though everything was clear it was powerful as hell too.

I hope Satyricon will do the same good show here! + keep of kalessin... man! ok you didnot like them, but i know they'll hit me strong. honestly i don't give a fuck about Insomnium, two killing bands in one nigth are enough for me Hmm maybe just a question: did Satyiricon play old (pre-2000) songs much ?

I really don't believe in Satyr calling the music he makes 'blackcore'. That's just weak and sounds faked. I want a link, at least. New Satyricon is obviously black 'n' roll. Anyhow, I saw them live last week. Satyr's rockstar persona left me with a band taste in my mouth but otherwise they were good musically, depsite the shitty sound of the venue. Keep Of Kalessin should have been headlining though. Personally, I think Armada is one of my favourite releases this year. Just too bad the curfew forced them to play a handful of songs, 4 I think. But back to Satyricon, the setlist was quite varied save for the lack of material from DMT. I bet it's because Satyr's forgotten the lyrics They also did a cover of Slayer's 'Raining Blood' crossed with 'Postmortem'. Apparently on other UK dates they played a Bathory cover :'(

I've been a great fan of Satyricon for a long time. Since I've seen the band live, I have to admit, they're awesome. Their sassion players are great, but don't know who they are. The gig in Ljubljana on the 4th of October was the best gig ever.
