I'm interested to see what you consider the best song by Black Sabbath. For me N.I.B. is the best. I only brought '70 songs because I thought they were the most popular ones.

If you vote other, please comment below which.

Hi. Children of the grave from the list and could be also my favourite one from their whole discography even considering Dio years. Apart from the music, this song is considered one of the first examples of classic heavy metal song structure. Fucking great. I like N.i.b. also very much from the list.

I know Ozzy doesn't sing it (that may be one reason why I'm choosing this), but Sign of The Southern Cross from the Dio era is an awesome song. The intro is haunting, the riffs are delectable, and Dio's performance is amazing as usual.

Agreed, probably with Fairies Wear Boots coming second, followed by N.I.B., Paranoid and Supernaut in some kind of random order.

And someone named the filler again Btw Paranoid is also one of my fav songs but it is a filler in the true sense of the word. The band wrote it in the studio because they needed a couple of more minutes of music to fill up the album

Just goes to show then than off-the-cuff songwriting can be more effective than drawn out planning and reshaping etc. ; )

true. Btw the version that appeared on the album is actually even version number two the original version had different lyrics that just didn't go with it too well. Btw that version has been released on a bootleg album
Funny though that the filler song also turned out to be the name giver of the album.

I always laugh when people mention filler in the sense of shit but don't realize Paranoid really IS a filler song

So did I couldn't be bothered to first check out my vinyl and then search for it on YT. SO went for the studio aternative and waited for the double negative

There are quite a few alternate live versions floating around lyrically, but that has to do with Ozzy's alcohol and drug intake and not with them being truly alternate lyrics

Right now I'd say "War Pigs" is their best song but it has been a while since I heard their debut.

War Pigs is still easily on the top 5 though. Brilliant song and omg DAT BASS.

It's a three way tie between Sweet Leaf, Electric Funeral and Fairies Wear Boots for me.

I voted Sweet Leaf though (so typical of me huh? ), no but seriously, the other two weren't on there, and I'd really rather avoid voting other.

I'd like to give credit to this medley for influencing my decision:

Megalomania is still one of my favorite metal songs, and my favorite Sabbath song. Ozzy actually sounds really good throughout the entire song (even if he does get loaded with effects during the intro), and writing a 9 minute long progressive metal song that feels half its length (in a good way) before metal as even a thing is pretty incredible.

I always laugh when people mention filler in the sense of shit but don't realize Paranoid really IS a filler song

I think of this every time somebody calls a mediocre Maiden song "filler" as a way to somehow justify it/avoid saying that its just average. A song being written just to fill space on an album doesn't necessarily mean that its going to be bad.

I don't have a favourite Sabbath song. But to me the best Sabbath songs are off the first six albums by far. Never was and never will be a fan of Dio-era Sabbath. Although Dio is a great vocalist his lyrics and vocals don't really fit in with Sabbath's doomy dark music for me.

Well, Heaven and Hell was the first song that introduces me to Sabbath. I remember dad use to listen "Sabbath" all day and when "Holy Pigs" strikes him..he was like "shit! what a fucking good song it is." When i went through Holy Pig....I liked Hell a lot.

Srs, i like that song much more than anything what Sabbath has produced til now.

What do you think of Dio's non-Sabbath material then? I personally prefer "Holy Diver"-album over his Sabbath-album.

I prefer his time with Rainbow and solo and also Elf over everything he recorded with Black Sabbath and Heaven & Hell

It's ok to have a non-Ozzy era Sabbath favourite. My favourites from Dio era are Heaven And Hell, Children Of The Sea and Lonely Is The Word.
