The Christian message is an ever-growing theme in Metal. From the early days it was looked at like a fluke, but now some of the biggest bands in Metal have Christian members, like, Iron Maiden, Megadeth and Dream Theater.
But there are those bands which put their faith in Jesus Christ at the forefront of the their music, and those are the bands that I wanted to poll. I picked what I thought were the 8 most popular bands from this faith, but left the "other" option just in case there are other choices. This list just deals with regular Metal bands, and not the Metalcore scene, which is heavily populated with Christian bands. So please don't pick "other" if your choice is a Metalcore band.
So, please pick your favorite, and tell us a little bit as to why.
For me, I have to go with Living Sacrifice. While Stryper is will always hold a place in my heart, Living Sacrifice is still my pick. Their albums are all solid releases filled with some brutal music and powerful lyrics. Even since their break up they're still noted as being a huge force is the Christian music scene.
I dispise most christian metal bands, since they want to convert you and you can see that on their lyrics, speaking about lyrics most christian bands have very poor lyrics and are mostly like "turn to jesus or else you will burn" wich is quite laughable. I espcially find "christian black metal" hilarious, it doesn't fit at all and how you can music in a genre with a anti-christian theme is beyond me. I'm mostly a folk metal fan, so I quickly heard about Holy blood, I gave them a try and that guy has one of the most anyoing vocals I ever heard. it's just black/death metal with here and there some simple flute play and the lyrics are again "covert or you will burn". Still there are some really great christian bands, like Allice cooper, Kekal and Saviour machine. I voted for Saviour Machine, they have for a change inteligent christian lyrics and Eric has a amazing voice.
I'm with Hemlock in this matter...dear Tír na nÓg....thing is like that....you simply don't like Christian message at all....Holy Blood is definitely NOT having the attitude "convert or burn"...many so-called satanic bands have sentences like that "let's spit on God and follow Satan and we'll be victorious etc"....well...as you don't like the message you enhance all the negative effects in the musical arrangement as well and so you have lots of things to bitch about...it's human nature...I amn't accusing you....and believe me....there is no converting message in Holy Blood....
about preaching....if someone does that....it's like council...it would be forcing if you'd be tied onto a chair and having a knife held at your throat to make you listen and follow all that is told....nobody does that....if you don't like that...don't listen....about Holy Blood....it has very positive lyrics....I'd compare them to Elvenking's lyrics...similar themes....at least for me....
maybe I'm telling it wrong. I have nothing against it, but when it starts about spreading the word/convert it just turns me off.
I have various christian metalheads as friends and when they put on their music I off course can't just turn it off. I have to say some of them
like Antestor-the Forsaken are quite good musically only the standard scream is a bit boring. the christian bands aren't the only one's I refuse to listen to Dissection for the same reason. the thing is with most black metal bands, they are atheists most of them and with their lyrics they don't try to reach out.
nope, I heard the music before I read the lyrics and I'm not the only one who hates those vocals some of my christian friends hate them to. well if you see the translations they sure do try to reach out. I find it a shame that most christian bands don't make epic long lyrics out of the bible, not only christians take inspiration from it, for example the singer of My Dying Bride who makes many lyrics inspired by the bible, alltough not a christian.
sorry if I have instulted any of you, don't want to attack anybody here.
Well, that is part of what their goal is when making music. For some Christians it is a form of self expression and worship. For others it is a ministry and outreach. No one can force you to except Jesus into your life, including Christian bands. They're not telling you what you have to believe. No, they're singing about the joy that is in their lives, the concepts of spiritual warfare, relationships, etc.
I'd vote for any of these, just for their brilliant riffs. Toxik with their amazing technical thrash, Incubus(not the faggot one) for their killer death metal riffs, and Believer is also great in the technical thrash realm. At least their debut is great. Second album is also somewhat good. Third album is where they died (no idea why people consider it their best). Living Sacrifice also deserves to be mentioned, the era when they still played thrash/death.
I heard of Touniquet, I heard they were quite good...speaking of which..has anyone ever heard strongarm? well then if you did, what do you think of their proggression into further seems forever? Strongarm is actually pretty loco, I like them...
Oh yeah, Strongarm has some cool material. I have some friends who are really into them. I am not much into the Hardcore/Metalcore music, but apparently they're really popular there.
I voted for other because of a recent band I found called Balance of Power. They hail from the UK. While they don't have the best lyrics, I found them to be pretty skilled, and they make some great music.

What style are they? Is there someplace I can check out their music?

They play Progressive Power Metal, they have a few samples on their website, you can also buy their stuff online, or simply download it (but it is kind of rare).
My favorite would be Frosthardr from Norway. They play black and death metal. I saw them live once and decided to buy their EP, Makteslös, it's some really good music. I also like Immortal Souls, but not so much.

Do they have any other albums? I have not heard these guys yet.

Only Makteslös, but their making a new album or EP right now.
Well, what would you define as 'good'? The Metal scene is actually filled with many talented artists who are Christians. Some of the biggest names in Metal have Christian members, such as Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Opeth, and Megadeth.
