Yes I have only Dark tranquillitys album Fiction + I have been in Dark Tranquillitys consert in Stockholm.
But I did not like their vocalist.

Your choice needs to be justified, is Dark tranquillity better with Mikael on the lead?
one thing about In Flames and DT, the vocals are very similar i think but what makes the difference is the lyrics and the melody,when it comes to solos ,acoustic and instrumental parts i think DT shows their advantage,for lyrics, just a fine look to DT titles and comparing them with In Flames titles shows that DT's are deeper, that's why i chose DT over In Flames. one other little difference between them is that In Flames are satanic while DT are not, i am not saying that satanic bands suck but it also counts for me.

Where the fuck did you get that In Flames are satanic from!? They are NOT satanic! There is nothing about their lyrics or anything that's satanic. And also, In Flames lyrics are as well very deep. They handle inner struggles, and DT's lyrics are quite abstract, so your arguments makes no sense to me. You, yourself, wants justifed choices, but you don't do that yourself. As I've already said, there are nowhere to find that In Flames should be satanic, just wonder where you got that from? No lyrical themes that In Flames has handle satanic questions, so it's a bit stupid to say that they are.

But anyways, now to the topic. For me these bands are equally great. Dark Tranquillity has the greater vocalist, and In Flames has the greater musicians. The lyrics handle the same things, but in different ways. There's no way to choose from this two. And for you who easily would go with DT because of In Flames new sound, that isn't obvious. I love old In Flames as much as I love new In Flames. DT and In Flames are equalls, doing things their own ways, and sound very different. DT is more agressive than In Flames, and In Flames are more melodic. Two sides, of one single coin.

sorry for that confusion, In Flames are not satanic,when I wrote that post I was under the influence of Episode 666.
But,In Flames and Dt might do apparently the same music but they don't sound equal to me,even the melody I think is better on DT's side,In flames are good but I don't admire them much.

Well, the sound is equal yes, as they both play so called Gothenburg Metal. And as bands they are equals to me. I love both bands equally much. They do their things in different ways, wich both are excellent according to me.

And about that 666 part, many bands sings about the number 666 without being satanic, just look at Iron Maiden. So just when you sing about that number it dosn't make you satanic. Many of the real satanic bands don't even use the number because it's something the christians came up with, not the satanists.

Dark Tranquillity, they are great since the first album to the last one, in flames is almost is the same style of DT but its not the same thing

I picked In Flames only because their old stuff is so great, but if it would have been between their new stuff I would have picked DT.

to tell you the truth, I dont like In Flames very much. in the beginning they were good but nothing special for me, then turned into more mainstream shit, releasing an album almost every year... I mean come on, this is boring! Dark Tranquillity on the other hand, have some releases like The Gallery, they are better for me!

I agree with Deadraiser.
I don't like In Flames that much.
And Dark Tranquillity is one of my favorite bands!
So, as you can see, it was an easy choice.

Since In Flames is shit now.. obviously Dark Tranquility is better

i'll go with In Flames.. i like when the band has the guts to change their style.. even if some fans didn't appreciate. I don't think that their current music is bad, its just different, i prefer the older works as almost everyone.
Dark tranquillity, on the other side, its always the same burocratic previsible melo-death. Far from being bad, just worse than In Flames (older and current).

Dark Tranquility.
Ive given In Flames plenty of listens, different albums, different songs etc, but I have yet to hear a song I like from them. Dark Tranquility was killer live, and even though Ive only listened to 3 albums from DT I must say i thoroughly enjoyed them.

Dark Tranquillity for their outstanding work and never submiting to the metalcore infecation. not to mention In Flames started to suck up the place at Reroute to Remain and haven't stopped sucking ever since, except for the latest one "A Sense of Purpose" wich is an okay album.

Old In Flames

In Flames. New In Flames. I liek Nu and I like the way the're doing it now. Come Clarity was not that good but teh new stuff is pretty good.

If we are going for the overall better band it's Dark Tranquillity.......they've stayed consistent and have released stellar albums throughout. In Flames has changed their sound with each new album adding a little something to each one. They've definitely evolved since Colony......a HUGE evolution in their sound. Some would argue that Old In Flames is like a completely different band then what they are now. I personally think that DT is the better of the bands but In Flames is my favorite band even with the mediocre last 2 albums

After hearing In Flames' latest album, I kinda gave up my hope for In Flames. They are a great band and all, but they are heading the wrong way, IMO. "A Sense Of Purpose" contains some enjoyable songs, I admit that. My vote goes to Dark Tranquillity, even though I like In Flames better. Dark Tranquillity have been a lot more consistent, and have released some brilliant albums throughout their career.

DT is heavier and deeper while IF is more melodic and rockin IMO
i totally prefer Mikael's vocals to Anders' and also the lyrics...
then i'd say Dark Tranquillity is superior to In Flames with no doubt.

I love both bands A LOT and i would say in flames but as we all know their last few albums have blown, but the old in flames in my opinion is better the DT but i quess if you wanna go with the best overall with all discography DT wins with all excellant albums, (Damage Done)---> My favoriteM/

I'm not a big fan of In Flames, but maybe it's because I haven't listened to them all too much. But I LOVE DT! They just sound dark, heavy, and deep. Just my preference. :]

In my opinion a sense of purpose is the worst album of melodeath and the gallery is the best.
til 2007 in flames was one of my favourite bands but a sense of purpose is only a trade album. i agree, their music is still good but their new lyrics are really stupid and intolerable .Anders Fridén just try to gain more fans and because of it he sings popular and consequence of this act is nothing but being a band like new soilwork. anders in colony and clayman was my favourite vocal but in this new album he is just kind of pop-vocal.

I couldn't say (or write) it better!

I'm going to have to go In Flames, consistently through their career they have always been one of my favorite bands. I even quite enjoy the nu music they are producing now. Though it may not be as good as their older material i still think its very well done (for what they were aiming for). DT on the other hand has decent recordings and none of which are weak albums, however none are as good as old In Flames for me.

Live In Flames wins again for me, I have seen DT twice and though they have been good, it has never been a stand out performance. I just don't feel them live. In Flames (seen 4 times) put on a wicked energy show, and always play a wicked set list.

Even The Jester Race is not so good, so DT gets my vote, definitely. They made incredible albums in the past and even their recent work is awesome. On the other hand, In Flames is a sellout so-called Gothenburg band and A Sense Of Purpose is maybe the palest and most boring "extreme" metal album I ever heard.

Dark Tranquillity is my favorite band in general, I really don't have to say more.

I'm pleasantly surprised that In Flames didn't take the lead in the poll considering they are so popular, even more so then DT. DTranqu (new nickname ) they will always be superior in this, "battle" and in their respective genres.

Early Dark Tranquility molests and mutilates earlier In Flames. I couldn't care less about their more recent material, but if I had to chose based on that, Dark Tranquility still gets the vote, seeing as it's not terrible. Early Dark Tranquility rules hard though.

Dark Tranquillity are just better than In Flames. They play the same style but always create different albums!!! I preffer also the vocals and the taste of melody they give out...
