oh happy to see a Nirvana topic here, since I consider them a great rock band, nothing to have in common with metal though. Nevermind is a masterpiece dudes, and I also love Bleach

@Elio: Their first album is arguably metal because it's heavy enough to be called grunge metal in my opinion...

I like diversity, so when I get bored of metal, I listen to grunge, aka Nirvana, Soundgarden, AIN etc. I don't think they are insanely talented or unique, maybe even a little overrated, and depending on my mood they either please me or they annoy the hell out of me. Also, I really hate ""Smells Like Teen Spirit" and don't understand why it gets so much hype, meh I feel like I'm getting earraped when I hear it. I'd rather prefer bands that can play the guitar like a demon not like a junkie. To me, they are an average band who is acceptable, but there are better grunge bands than Nirvana.

30.12.2008 - 02:04 Written by Elio on 23.12.2008 at 18:44 Yes, I think so.. And not just Paper Cuts, but most of songs on this album are heavier than Nirvana's next albums.. Negative Creep and School are other heavy songs.. And even in their next albums, they were heavier than any other bands in rock genre in my opinion..

Nirvana... I think is my favorite band. Not for their music, actually I just "love" All apologies and Jesus Don't want me for a Sunbeam [which is a cover], but their spirit...that "Teen Spirit", the Cobain's f*cked head, Grohl and Novoselic trying to give him a sense in his life, Courtney, the daughter (hell, I forgot her name) etc...I think the Nirvana short world was alomst surreal, that's something really special.

I'll never ever ever ever ever ever ever understand what is so great about Nirvana. I'd put them up there with Metallica on the "Most overrated bands of all time" list

18.05.2009 - 16:11 Written by Italics on 16.05.2009 at 12:15 Why? Yes, they were the rock mainstream in early 90's. But how can it be overrated.. Musically they were one of the best in Grunge/Alternative Rock history. Although I'm not into their music now days but still I think they're one of the best performers in 90's. Their Bleach was one of the most unique albums in those Rock days, in my opinion. *** I hate it when people say Nirvana were anti Metal. As I know Dave Grohl and Kurt Cobain were heavily inspired by Metal bands. Having problems with Guns n' Roses doesn't mean that they were against Metal genre. Sepultura, Slayer, White Zombie, Kiss and many other Metal bands were their personal favorites. And it also effected their music. Bleach and In Utero sound more like Metal rather than Rock.

19.05.2009 - 10:12 Posts: 294 Written by Hamird on 18.05.2009 at 16:11 Well I never said they were anti-metal. I just find their music overrated. It's not very enjoyable. Maybe it's Kurt's voice. Maybe it's that "grungy" guitar. Maybe it's the lack of catchy melodies. maybe it's because they sound like a bunch of drunk guys with mullets jamming in their mom's garage. If I want good grunge music, I'll pop in Smashing Pumpkin's "Siamese Twins." =D

Whatever.. Well, anyone has an opinion. I usually don't like Grunge in general except Nirvana and early 90's Pearl Jam.. Because I thought they're heavier and more sound like Metal rather than other Grunge bands..

A band that changes everything in the rock scene in the world, nobody can deny this wheter you like this band or not, Kurt Cobain maybe was not the best musician ever and his guitar skills were limitated but he is the perfect example of someone who does what he wanted to do and played what he wanted to played and what he liked, bands like that are the ones who gives rock music sense, their originality was amazing. I like Nirvana a lot!

One of the first bands I really got into. My favorite material is Bleach and Incesticide. They've got a grittier sound than the likes of Nevermind or In Utero. Has anyone read the book Who Killed Kurt Cobain?, it really makes you wonder, so much evidence towards a murder case but yet the FBI refuse to re-open the case. Most things point to the lead singer of another grunge band (as to not mention her name for legal reasons ). The worst is her father even believes she's behind his death.

30.12.2009 - 15:36 Written by [user id=28526] on 30.12.2009 at 15:20 According to Dave Grohl, him and Kurt had a decent friendship, one where they respected each others privacy, which are also the strongest. Courtney has spread rumours that Kurt didn't like Dave but if he didn't why would he have made him best man at his wedding? Dave has rarely spoken about Kurt since his death, just that he wanted to continue music (hence the Foo Fighters) in order not to dwell on his death. He has also publicly stated his dislike of Courtney and gave a thumb up to a fan who yelled "Courntey killed Kurt" at a Foo Fighters gig. All in all, I beleive Courtney is weary of Dave because Dave has probably always been weary of her.
