@ Aronax: Dismal Euphony is symphonic/melo black metal, at least their earlier works were. And Mercyful Fate is not "real" black metal, they're something like "blackened heavy".
Oh, please, Dismal Euphony can't be Black Metal, I hate those genres they are Symphonic Metal if you ask me, but without Black, all they have from black metal is voice and nothing else, listen to Mayhem and compare them with DE, and Mercyful Fate was playing Black metal before we were born, ask anyone from old black metal scene who was their influence

Influence is one thing, and playing that stuff is other. I know that lots of BM bands were influenciated by MF but that doesn't mean that MF was true/pure/real BM. You can't say that hard-rock blues is the same thing as metal, but metal was obviously influenciated by hard-rock/blues.
The usual argument huh. Quite tired of hearing this one over the years but anyway I voted for Black Metal cause it keeps me enthralled a lot more while I get bored of Death Metal easily. Also Black Metal has a nice combination of ruthlessness, atmosphere and passion to varying levels depending on the band. Don't get me wrong, Death Metal is a good genre as well but its not my thing..

While Mercyful Fate played Black Metal, those bands wasn't even in plan, Mercyful fate invented Black Metal so they play BM, you can't invent something twice

I dont follow.. Mercyful fate didn't invent Black Metal, they had a big influence yes but invent it is an entire different thing altogether..

I agree. Don't know why I should bother. Anyways although I vote for Black Metal, I quite like a few Blackened Death bands like Akercocke and a few others now and then although they are by no means my favourite bends. Actually tried out listening to some serious Death Metal for a while but just prefer Black naturally. In my blood I guess..

I put Death Metal. Black metal never really did it for me, I like all the symphonic elements, but I could never get into the vocals. But with death metal, I've always enjoyed bands like Vader, and Amon Amarth just to name a couple.
I see I haven't voted here before, and I can understand why. I used to have a hard time since I like both genres equally, but I will vote Black Metal now without a doubt. I am more into it the last couple of months. Eventhough I am listening Death Metal right now. (Yyrkoon ~ Occult Medicine)

I am always on the side of death metal.More complicated and more artistical songs that can be called as music.Subjectively,no black metal band could give me the taste of death.

Yeah? What do you mean by saying we? speak for your self! I personally could live without death, tho it would be really unpleasant and boring.
ahaha true!
My vote goes to Death Metal for speed and brutality mostly.

I'm actually surprised to see that death metal is winning, considering black metal fans seem to be everywhere and apparently it's trendy to listen to black metal these days. So many black metal bands around....
I choose black metal simply because I perfer the focus on atmosphere, it's stripped down nature and the dark melancholy feel it emanates. Black metal is probably more compatible than death metal for genre fusions (prog-, symphonic-, melodic-, black 'n roll, doom-, gothic- etc).

Definitely Black Metal for me. I've never enjoyed Death Metal as much as Black Metal. I find that I prefer Death Metal bands which have other aspects in their music as well like Doom and a few other things. In Black Metal however there's nothing like that and generally I like almost all bands in the genre to some extent.
Black Metal, definitely!
Why? Well, I like some DM bands, but I usually get bored soon listening to that. On the other hand, BM creates an atmosphere I simply can't resist nor stop listening to. It's not just about brutality of the music, it has enjoyable gloomy melodies, and still sounds powerful. Gets you into another world, a world of mystique.
Basically, I love the feeling that goes through me while I listen to it.

Yeah I guess there's more exposure to Black Metal here than anywhere else but I really like Black Metal comparatively speaking. Death Metal has never been my thing. I like Gothic Metal and Doom Metal a but as well though!
I like both styles, but I still voted in Black Metal because I like its dark ambient and atmosphere. I also like Death Metal because of the fast drums and strong vocals.
