I'm interested to see what you consider the best song by Black Sabbath. For me N.I.B. is the best. I only brought '70 songs because I thought they were the most popular ones.

If you vote other, please comment below which.

Black Sabbath off Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath... by far.
That song is an absolute classic and will forever be my favorite BS song.

Agreed, probably with Fairies Wear Boots coming second, followed by N.I.B., Paranoid and Supernaut in some kind of random order.

And someone named the filler again Btw Paranoid is also one of my fav songs but it is a filler in the true sense of the word. The band wrote it in the studio because they needed a couple of more minutes of music to fill up the album

It is really funny that a filler laid the ground to the entire heavy metal genre. Blue Cheer's "Summertime Blues" was earlier and is what I consider to be the first heavy metal song, but that song still had a significantly blues element, and "Black Sabbath" is a doom metal song, not a heavy metal song. "Paranoid" started the evolution to what would be traditional heavy metal, an evolution they of course continued a year later with "Children Of The Grave". Probably "Paranoid" could be considered the second most influential metal song ever after "Black Sabbath".

Megalomania is still one of my favorite metal songs, and my favorite Sabbath song. Ozzy actually sounds really good throughout the entire song (even if he does get loaded with effects during the intro), and writing a 9 minute long progressive metal song that feels half its length (in a good way) before metal as even a thing is pretty incredible.

I'm surprised so many people mentions Megalomania as their favourite song, although I agree it is a great song, but I didn't know it was considered among the true classics, since it isn't featured on any of my compilations or live albums by Sabbath, and the Sabotage album is rarely mentioned as one of the very best Sabbath albums, and when talking about Sabotage, it is often Symptom Of The Universe that is mentioned. Perhaps I should have included Megalomania on the poll too.

I'm going with Die Young - love that song.

Picking an Ozzy era favourite song would be pretty difficult.

I currently enjoy Snowblind. The main riff I think is one of Iommi's best and Ozzy's vocal performance is ridiculously good. Vol. 4 is an amazing album.

I could add that I still like Vol. 4, but I like all of their first six albums. I just find it difficult to find any true stand-out track on Vol. 4. like on the other albums. My favourite song on the album is Tomorrow's Dream, but Snowblind is of course good too.

What I have found most interesting is to see how many different favourite songs people have, although there seems to be two songs more popular than others. "Children Of The Grave" is one of my favourites too, but "War Pigs" is probably my least favourite track among those on the poll.

War Pigs lyrics lost its meaning now, but Grave ... its still actual ... we have no jobs, life, hope and future, but why we cant march unite inr ebelion as in 70's?

War Pigs lyrics lost its meaning now,

How the hell have those lyrics lost their meaning?

They are morecurrently actual than ever before...

"Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerers of death's construction
In the fields the bodies burning as the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind
Poisoning their brainwashed minds... Oh lord yeah!

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor

Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait 'till their judgment day comes, yeah!

Now in darkness, world stops turning
Ashes where the bodies burning
No more war pigs of the power
Hand of God has struck the hour
Day of judgment, god is calling on their knees, the war pigs crawling
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings
ALL RIGHT NOW! "

I mean as band said song is about anti Nam war , isnt it so , well , maybe it has if we transferee to another todays useless war like Iraq fore example

Bob Dylan also said his 70's song lyric dont mean same as they did back in the days as protest song ...

NO WE NEVER SAID IT IS THE WORST BS SONG.

All I said (no idea about Richard though) is that is is the single most OVERRATED BS song. And especially because it just goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on. And live the song is even worse. I can stomach it on album but totally not live.

I agree with Marcel though, it's not a bad song but it's certainly not up there with the metal opuses to come from the first few BS albums. And boy did Dio ever do a shitload of higher quality stuff in his career than Heaven and Hell

I have to agree. At first the song sounds really great, set up to be one of the best metal songs ever, but it doesn't build up from there on, it just drags on.

From their first lineup I remember really enjoying Supernaut. Riffing is as heavy as anything for the time and terrific drum work by Ward. With Dio, I'd take Children of the Sea. The mellow, folky parts are great themselves and they really set up the heavier riffing. Those dynamics might be commonplace now, but still rarely done as well as here. But my absolute favourite is The Shining with Gillen on vocals. Martin is great as well, but Gillen was one of the best singers of the 80s who rarely had a chance to have his voice heard on first rate songs.
