Written by tea[m]ster on 16.02.2014 at 18:02 Woa fuck Troy, BAM! Nice! I am thinking this is kinda like Sombre Forets and even Les Discrets?
Sombre Forets, yes - Les Discrets not so much. Some elements of post-metal appear (mostly in the ambient breaks, textural guitars, and the way they build momentum) but they don't have any affiliation with the shoegaze scene. Totalselfhatred and Nyktalgia are two bands that play a similarly depressive form of atmospheric black metal (although neither one reaches the intricate technicality or ambitious songwriting of Gris).
Fuck, I hate it when you get all big worded and technical - my head is a bout to explode - so what do you recommend that's kinda the same "style" as Gris?

I'll keep it simple - while I haven't heard of any bands that play the exact style of Gris, you should start with Nyktalgia and Totalselfhatred as mentioned, maybe work in some Miserere Luminis (a collab of Sombres Forets and Gris members), Defaillance, Austere, Krohm, Csejthe, maybe some Lifelover (although this rec is more so due to atmosphere than overall sound) and, if you like what you hear, from there you can delve into the depths of the depressive black metal genre. I'm assuming you won't like the raw stuff as much so no point suggesting the likes of Abyssic Hate or Trist, but those others are a good place to start.

Sombres forets are the only ones who really sound like them in this album, they really seem to be quite unique.

I tried hard, but I couldn't like this, so I give up with this album. I will check it's predecessor since some people say is their best album, and one of the best of the genre.

Fair enough. Yeah haven't heard their first one either. But have heard its more straightforward and more in the true depressive BM style. I didnt get that vibe with this one really. More so with the lyrics perhaps.

Neurasthénie is even more different, i think they stated that they were doing seven albums and each one was going to be very different from the last.

If you don't like Black Metal and Advantgarde Metal then I don't think you need to go on wasting your time for their previous albums. This is certainly their BEST !

Shining (early) + Agalloch + Bethlehem(early) = À L'Âme Enflammée, L'Äme Constellée...
Very underrated, I didn't even know about the release of this album. I tried to order their previous album through a record store but to no vail. Frankly speaking don't know how to get their albums...I think even canadian music stores don't carry...

Then Agalloch is not your type I think...this album has very strong Agalloch guitars' approach, overall presentation is softer than the previous one.

Apart from Metal Storm I didn't notice any website giving this album or this band a praise.
Very surprised to know that they're popular in your country.

hehe yeah. I actually heard this partially last year after Troy's review. Don't remember much from it except that I didn't like those songs I checked at all.
Also, I think Marcel will agree with us, too.

Yeah, but MA is full of people that like this depressive crap.
As everyone says, this band is snoresville. I'm surprised people could tolerate forty minutes of this kind of music. Over an hour and ten minutes of it must be pure and utter torture.

Good to know that, my rating is around 85% - 89%.
The problem of MA's rating system is averagely based on very few reviewers' opinions. If one reviewer's rating is extremely high or low then the score will be greatly affected...not really accurate.
