i remember reading a description of this band and thinking i was going to hate it but actually liked the sample mp3, bought it and was really impressed. combining depressing pop and more black-metallish moments it creates a very neurotic sound. strangely upbeat but with a depressing feel at the same time.

the cure is obviously a big influence and most likely, woods of infinity as well.

Holy shite, has anyone heard of Sancta Poenas?? They are also from Sweden and sound identical to Lifelover, but with more psychedelia involved. Might be better than Lifelover to me lol.

http://www.myspace.com/sanctapoenas

Edited the "http://" in so your link actually works. Don't sue me for editing your votes. (I have that right anyway, ha )

I'm defonatelirytiiti checking this out though.

Ahaha, idiotic me. I knew that too. Anyways, if I can elaborate more for the sake of it now, it's basically a Lifelover rip-off in a sense, because nearly everything about the two bands is the same, except whereas Lifelover comes from a post-punk(ish) background, these guys are more from psychedelic rock, which is good in my books.

Aye, well, the only things that I haven't heard are the new MCD, Dekadens and Pulver (although I've heard various tracks from it, and judging by them I would probably like it most). My favorite is Erotik. Amazing shit, and one of the best albums to listen to in a dark room in solitude while staring out the window at all the city lights from about seven stories up. It really does encapsulate the whole urban depression theme that is often mentioned about their music.

Konkurs is good too, just not as good, even though it's in much the same vein.

This page seems to be a bit... dead Soooo, what do you think about Sjukdom? I found some tracks a bit boring when I listened to it the first time, but it has been growing on me since then. Not that is going to become my favorite album by them, but I find it a pretty good release now. Specially Expandera, Nedvankande and Becksvart Frustration...

Yeah, I agree with that... They're also a great listening when returning home late at night, drunk and lonely as fuck... well, I said enough.

I have yet to give the new album a listen, but if I like it and there's still copies of the limited box set left, I'll give that an order.

New album released. Anyone heard of it yet?

Sound good, to be honest.

I've "obtained" it, but have yet to give it a listen. Maybe that's what I'll do tomorrow during laundry; thanks for the reminder!

Gee, can't recall the last time I heard this band but I'm now listening to Sjukdom and, although I like what I hear, it seems different from what I kinda expected.

What do you mean? What has changed ?
I haven't heard it yet, Right now I'm listening to the first song and it sounds quite like them but a bit more... "normal" I guess. And less cymbal, thank god because that started to annoy me a little.

Well, "normal" is not the word I'd use, but I think we think alike. The album seems to be more calm and united (=if I said less chaotic you would say it's not chaotic 'cause it has a structure... or whatever, yeah, got that, but the way I see it - it's not so jumpy and does not make me feel like I'm listening to three different albums at once), oh, and it's also more melodic. But, since I have not heard "Konkurs", maybe I'm wrong and they already sounded like that three years ago... personally I think this change is good though.

There we have it. Konkurs is indeed more melodic than the first two albums. I don't listen to it very much but that's because I haven't heard Lifelover until just a few days ago when I got my copy of Dekadens which is also inte same vein as Konkurs. So yeah... They pretty much sounded like that 3 years ago.

It's weird, I still love Pulver, I think it's a brilliant release but I'm glad they changed the style too because I'm 100% sure they couldn't done the same thing twice... Not as good anyway. Pulver is the kind of album that only appears once.

I don't know if it was already posted, but this is from their Facebook page:

"We are very sad to report that yesterday our bandmate and brother B has passed away.

The concerts today and tomorrow are still to be performed, but in a different form in his honor.
This information is valid and in its extreme sadness true.

... A final statement with further details is to come.

Kim, Henrik (H.), Felix (Fix), Kral"

So sad, rest in peace, B

"On Friday morning, September 9th, B didn't wake up from his sleep. He didn't take his own life nor was he victim of any apparent action. The authorities in charge are still examinating his body to find the exact cause of death.

We, the remaining members of Lifelover have decided to lay the band to rest. This would be the only right thing to do considering B was the main composer of Lifelover.

Therefore, we won't be performing at our coming, planned shows. We are very sorry and hope that all of the fans that had been looking forward to seeing Lifelover play live will understand. The concerts in Belgium and Holland were the last concerts of Lifelover. We want to thank everybody that was present and helped out, especially Rob "Svograth" Polon of Monads and the members of IXXI.

These last days have been very hard for us and everybody that knew B. We want to thank all of our fans for being so respectful, dedicated and understanding and, most of all, for supporting Lifelover during all these years.

/Kim, Henrik, Felix, Johan, Rickard and Kral"

The fact B died in his sleep makes it even sadder... at least he didn't kill himself.

I think disbanding was the best thing to do.
It'd be cool if members would form something different, kind of like windir/vreid.

Worst news ever.

Yeah, I think so far this year (what the hell... maybe from the last couple of years) this has been the worst news ever for me. Not only the death of an important member but also the death of the band
Well if you can see it "in a good way", I think their music will live on quite well and I'm quite sure they will have some cult status in the future.
Despite the last two albums and EP being a bit too similar, their discography was pretty damn strong imo.

Yeah, I think so far this year (what the hell... maybe from the last couple of years)

Most people refer to Dio's death as the ultimate metal blow. Lifelover's disbandment and B's death rank higher for me on a personal level.

But like you said, their music will live on and if anything gain more attention/appreciation over time. I know I've been playing through their discog over the last few days.

Most people refer to Dio's death as the ultimate metal blow.

Dio's death was incredibly sad but not a huge blow considering how we saw it coming since his diagnosis.
B's death on the other hand WAS a huge blow to me as well and the band disbanding a few days later was just like the remake of said blow.

Thanks god Lifelover's Coldplay take on black metal is no longer.

I perfectly know you are saying this in a light mood and not seeing the sad aspect from it but that won't stop me from saying:

Also... Lifelover has far more influences from the swedish band Kent than Coldplay. Then again, Kent has been seen as "the swedish coldplay" although I will always be ready to point out the differences between the two.
