"Therion is a Swedish symphonic metal band. Its name originates from Greek, where therion means simply beast; the name refers to the beast of the Christian Book of Revelation, however the band's name itself originates from the Celtic Frost album To Mega Therion. Therion was founded by Christofer Johnsson in 1987. Beginning as a death metal band, they later turned to combining orchestral elements with their metal music employing heavy use of choirs and classical musicians.
Therion's music takes its themes from different mythologies and is based on concepts ranging from occultism, magic and ancient traditions and writings. The majority of their lyrics are written by Thomas Karlsson, head and founder of the magical order Dragon Rouge of which Johnsson is a member. The band has seen many changes in line-up and style throughout its history"
This band to me, are absolutley sublime. The elements they combine are not only multifarious, but beautiful in the way they are placed and presented. Lemuria / Sirius B was an instant classic for me, so much more so than the bands previous endevours.
What do you all think of this terrific ensemble?

Nice video man! lol their costumes are kinda lame though; they look like they just finished a game of Dungeons and Dragons in their parents' basement, and Messiah looks like that one big guy from The Princess Bride.

Therion is simply awesome. Nobody can deny that Christofer Johnsson is a kind of god or something else! I saw them this year for first time, and was a concert that I'll never forget. About Lemuria and Sirius B, just master-pieces!!!

i think i said this again, but The Blood of Kingu is one of my favourite songs ever. the way it goes from that INCREDIBLY EPIC intro to the absolutely thrashing riff is simply amazing!

Written by [user id=2084] on 06.07.2008 at 22:47 yeah man.. too bad it's symphonic fluff after that. do you know other songs with something like that MONSTROUS transition between extreme epicness and chainsaw riff? the closest thing i know is Iced Earth- Angel's Holocaust(the middle), but it's not as awesome.

At first I didn't like it much but now I really like their new album Gothic Kabbalah! It's different from older albums but all songs are great on this album!

I start to enjoy Therion more and more. Even the so-called bad Lemuria and Sirius B I enjoy. except for Gothic Kabbalah, it is very average and there are unfortunally quite some bad and boring songs on it.

Damn.. the The Miskolc Experience is awesome!!  Loved teh ''Symphony No. 9 [Excerpt] [Dvorak Cover]'' and ''Vedi! Le Fosche Notturne Spotigle [from "Il Trovatore"] [Verdi Cover]''. Very cool album. Waiting for the dvd also.

Written by Soliloquy on 03.07.2009 at 18:02 yeah nice transition, Judas Priest's Dawn of Creation/Prophecy is also a great example of something like this, a huge epic orchestral build-up which explodes into the main song, though Prophecy is way slower than Kingu. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4l26XO7o2Sc if the intro was done with an orchestra or something it would have been the best example of what i was talking about
