I can't believe nobody has started a Megadeth thread yet. Not only are they a well-known thrash band, but there's always been so much controversy around them because of the Mustaine-haters.

Have fun discussing.

Listened to some of Megadeth's earlier songs lately after a long time and they seemed really good, fresh and full of energy. I will try to listen to more of it. What I like is the quite aggressive youthful attitude in their music alongside with quite interesting riffs. I also seem to have gotten into the vocals, which was hard to do at first. Probably my favorite band of what is considered the big four of thrash metal. Haven't heard any of albums after the System has Failed, which I quite liked, but still significantly less than the earlier stuff. Somehow I have a feeling that they'll probably not come up with as good stuff as they used to do.

Megadeth is easily the best of the big four and probably my second favorite thrash band overall.

I like megadeth. I got there greatest hits with the bonus dvd last week. I wanted to see how they were live and doing Hangar 18. I must admit I was impressed, I think the tempo live was faster then the album version. That song is a total shred fest. I think that megadeth has the right to hang their head high, more so then metallica. I don't know how Mustaine was evicted from Metallica, only the second hand information you hear, but I dont have much respect for bands that jettison a brother when he is having a rough time, don't like it, leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Get 'Peace Sells'. Honestly. There's no two ways about it. If you don't already have it, get it next.

To elaborate, I presume you mean 'older stuff' to cut off about 'Countdown to Extinction' or 'Youthanasia' (so, early-to-mid nineties). Now, as I don't have 'Killing is My Business...' or 'Youthanasia', I can't really comment on them, but of the run of four albums I do have (i.e. Peace Sells -> Countdown), Peace Sells is the best. Rust in Peace is awesome as well, and So Far, So Good... has some great ideas, they're just poorly executed, which makes it a bit disappointing (especially being bookended by Peace Sells and Rust in Peace...a lot to live up to!).

Oh, and if you don't like The Conjuring, you will be receiving suspicious packages from me.

Also keep in mind the atmosphere in a concert, sure Dave might sound just as bad in person as he did on those vids, but if theres a great atmosphere at the concert it usually makes up for some slight shortcomings. And he was spot on with his solos.

Would anyone be able to tell me exactly why 'deth's debut is overlooked to some degree/shafted for Peace Sells and Rust In Peace? Methinks it's just as good as Peace Sells, musically, though not as refined. We're given a somewhat raw and hasty sound here instead and I can't understand how that's bad or necessarily makes it slightly inferior to the aforementioned.

It's probably not mentioned in the same breath as Peace Sells or Rust In Peace because of the terrible production of the album.

With the original release it certainly did, but not really with the remastered re-release.
And IMO it is also regarded a little less because its stand-out tracks aren't as stand-out as those on Peace Sells and Rust In Peace. So, it's peaks aren't as high as the peaks on those two albums (or even So Far So Good So What, for that matter)

Arguably, it flows better than the other two, apart from the last track though (which is still enjoyable, but doesn't fit completely). I guess it's at least better than the others here, even in your opinion, right Marcel?

Just to note, I'm talking with the remaster in mind, since I haven't heard the original, although I can imagine how poor the sound quality might be

"Rocker Dave Mustaine has turned Santa Claus for a group of San Diego, California-area children who face Christmas without homes or parents after a successful charity campaign left him filling sacks with toys.

The Megadeth frontman teamed up with Hasbro toys after fans helped him raise cash to buy gifts for military kids with parents serving overseas at Christmas or killed by the war in Iraq.

Firefighters' children and others less fortunate will also benefit from Mustaine's gifts.

The kind-hearted rocker says, "I was able to get a whole bunch of toys... I bought nine-and-a-half pallets of toys and am donating them to the children who have lost their homes and ultimately their toys and their little worlds. The church I go to, that has 300-400 military children whose parents are deployed; the Toys For Tots with the Marines, who always have given toys to kids, and lastly our firefighters down here."

Much of the money raised came from purchases of Mustaine's new charity coffee brand, Legends Cup, at Megadeth concerts.

In the website message to fans, the thrilled rocker says, "None of this would be possible without your support of Legends Cup Coffee Cup. Thank you guys, I really, really mean it."

Do you think he would have endeavoured to do such a benevolent act, had religion not walked in on his life?

Of course, it's a good thing that he's doing this. The coffee was also surprise, but do you know how long he's been using that at concerts?

Not quite... But I mean it like I said. I support Dave and his wish to help, thats great. But in the other side, I doubt that those children whos fathers are in Iraq or whatever lack any money, I mean, they pay them for that, and pay them fine money to go fight war in some country God-knows-where, and no one forces them to go there.... On the other side you have poor children in those countries occupied by those soldiers, and no one gives a shit for them and thei toys and their families, thats all i wanted to say...
