It’s barely been a year since Scimitar unleashed their debut album onto the world, and they’re already back for more. But things are surprisingly a little different this time around, for better or for worse.

This is INSANE, what an album, holy shit.

the last song is a masterpiece, probably the best music I'll hear this year (releases of this year)

This one feels more consistently blackened than the debut, not a bad thing just different. The vocals are the real standout feature of the album for me, really dig such a soaring, evocative, haunting clean tone mixed (quite low) with noisy lo-fi intense instrumentation

Nice, will have to check this out. I liked their previous but hopefully this one is mixed better.

Nevermind the mixing, this is easily in my top 5 metal albums of the year, so far. Maybe top 3.

How well do you like it compared to the debut? I also think it's a very good album, and that final track is especially really well made, but I can't help but miss the melodies and overall vibe of the debut

Yes, I finally listened to this and feel like they need to up the melody 10% and lower the noise/dissonance by 10%.

I got around to the debut very late last year so I don't know it by heart or anything, but they're pretty equal in my books. Yeah the riffs aren't as catchy, but I'm a vocal melody guy anyway and they stand out more.

Maybe this reminds me even more of Ved buens ende, which is rare and wonderful.

I think first one was a little bit better but they are so close in quality you’d be splitting hairs. Agree with Boxcar though, they’re at their best when they’re leaning hard into the melodic side. Both I and II are fantastic though and I can’t wait to see where this band goes.
