Portuguese metal institution Moonspell has debuted a Pavel Trebukhin-directed music video for "Cross Your Heart", a new glimpse into their forthcoming studio album release Far From God.

Fernando Ribeiro on the new song: "Reminiscent of Irreligious with a modern and dark twist, this gothic metal song tells us about the shrines that we can frequently find on the roads of all countries in the world and that are erected as a painful memory to those who departed in car and bike crashes, often too soon, every time too painfully. Like a band who made miles upon miles and a few crashes themselves, we are privileged observers of the daily and nightly life on the roads, the promised cities, the bitter disappointments, the anguish of a portable life. Before such powers we can only cross our heart and hope to live enough before our time does come."

So Gothic disco rock it will be... 5 year wait... and the album is already gonna be just 40 min long... out of which they have released an underwhelming 10 min so far... I am a little disappointed. no memorable riffs, lyrics or melodies yet.

I don't really have high hopes now, but I'll still get the album because Moonspell has been my go-to band for years now.

This track was especially painful... i was like are their guitar pedals not working? Why such thin, lifeless guitars? i kept waiting for it to get noisy, either in instruments, or in vocals, but it never did.

I liked their first single better. This one isn't that exciting.

We'll see.

I can understand the initial disappointment, but what I've always loved about this band is that each album is different, but still undeniably Moonspell. So far, it seems they are doing less Irreligious part 2 (as has been described), and more their version of straight-up 80s goth rock. Enjoying it so far, but I do hope some of the other songs have a bit more heaviness, and even a harsh vocal here and there.

I think they're going for the Ghost/Tribulation/UntoOthers hype. They've done this type of stuff before, so they thought "now it's popular again, let's go for it". The issue, it seems, is that creativity plays a big part and these two songs are just very very uninspired. Compare them with any songs from their most goth albums (Irreligous, Sin, Darkness & Hope and Extinct), i don't think they would be in the final tracklist on any of those albums.

yeah that's what keeps me hooked to the band. Many people didn't like Hermitage, but i loved it because it had substance. you could see the thought process and hard work that went into it. the guitars were still very Ricardo-like, the vocals and lyrics were undeniably Fernando. The compositions had weight.

This time it just seems like they recorded 2,3 versions of 30-second snippets and then patched them together.

I so hope I am wrong and the next tracks bring about something special.

I loved Hermitage as well. I'd say the only album of theirs that didn't impress me, while still having a few good songs, was The Butterfly Effect. For the most part, it just bored me.

Couldn't have said it better.
