It would be fair to say that, back in the day, under-appreciated thrash titans Forbidden were just victims of misfortune, releasing a masterful debut at a time when thrash was at the height of its popularity. It was sadly overlooked within the torrent of thrash acts that were around at the time. However, unlike most of these other bands who were totally generic, Forbidden were clearly a class above many of their fellow 2nd/3rd tier thrash acts. This fact was cemented with their brilliant (and more mature sounding) 2nd album, Twisted Into Form. Unfortunately, they then lost their talented drummer Paul Bostaph to Slayer, and then tried to move musically with the times, slowing down and modernizing for 1994's Distortion, and finally, producing a very misguided attempt at Machine Head worship, with 1997's Green. It wasn't the style of these albums that were the problem, it was their lack of quality. Perhaps not surprisingly, the band eventually folded, which at the time seemed like a merciful fate.

Thirteen years have passed since the latest band's offering, entitled Green, which had exhibited a subdued result.

Anyway Omega Wave marks an attractive return. Indeed Forbidden are back and their amazing thrash riffs too.

Thrash Hater? Dude, I grew up on thrash and my band was primarily thrash. I just didn't think that album was very good. Actually I found it laughable and then I forgot it making it forgettable iMO.

"Forbidden Evil" is one of my all time fave thrash albums. So is "Twisted Into Form" right enough, it just kicks your ass in a different way. "Chalice Of Blood" is one of thrash's greatest openers and songs. And "Looking Through Eyes Of Glass" contains one of my fave ever solos. For me, it is anything but forgettable! lol One of my fave thrash debuts definitely. xD

Oh well.... I see there are good arguments but I still think that album blows. I did however hear it well after it came out and my opinion might have been better if I listened to it when it was relevant.

tbh I prefer their demo when they were still called Forbidden Evil. The production of the album took away from its impact making it sound too thin.

I just finished listening to the Album I would have to say it sounded Like a combination of Forbidden Evil and Distortion I would have to say that it is almost as good as the First two albums

I've been a HUGE fan from the very beginning. I have to say that I'm liking what I'm hearing so far. Forbidden Evil is one of my all time favorite metal discs...but Twisted Into Form was a big disappointment to me. I thought it was really their "black album"...too polished, too commercial, too MTV. Although there were some great tracks, there were also some duds. As a consequence, I never heard Distortion until years later...it was better, but didn't thrill me.

GREEN on the other hand is one of the most amazing metal discs of all time. SORELY overlooked and under rated. IMHO, there are three *perfect* albums in the history of thrash. Reign in Blood, Beneath the Remains and GREEN. Absolutely stunning album.

So far I like that this has the ferocity of Green, but the song structure of Forbidden Evil. I don't know if I like it as well as those two, but it's FAR better than Twisted Into Form.

I'm listening to it right now for the second time. Good production despite the ugly cover. A nice album. Up to date. A good surprise.

Well, not bad album, but i expected more. The intro "Alpha Century" is really awesome, and the second song "Forsaken At The Gates" as well (for me the best song of the record) both songs form an impressive start of the album. I will highlight the songs "Forsaken At The Gates", "Adapt Or Die","Dragging My Casket", "Hopenosis" (i love it), "Immortal Wounds" and "Omega Wave" (some moments of this one even remember me a bit to Fear Factory =)). On the other hand, for me the weaker song of the album is "Swine", and then comes the song "Chatter", i do not know what to say really with this one , definitely this is the weakest part of the disc. Finally imo the sound of the album in general could have been a bit better.

I shouldn't have bought this - it sounds like Death Magnetic. If I play it again I might even rate it lower -_-

Son, I am disappoint.

Besides the modern feel to it and production, I don't see many resemblances to DM.

Sadly, too many reasons make me agree with you except the Metallica part.
First of all, I couldn't concentrate on music because of the distraction caused by the ugly, non creative, none original vocal lines e.g. overthrow.

Good solo on 'Forsaken At the gates'.

What i dislike the most about this album, and really disappointed with are lyrics e.g. 'Dragging my casket down'

Digging my grave, who's going to save me
Burnt by the fire, stole my desire
Holding me down, who's going to save me
Embracing my pain, no one will save me
I'm dragging my casket down!

hmmm? Wut? i can't live with that ringing in my ear.

The lyrics are lame, opening a subject such as "New World Order", comparing to other bands such as Megadeth, Testament etc.. ; i wished they haven't brought it up through these shallow lyrics. I am a new world order guy, and i get really excited when i listen to my favorite bands screams, shouts and bring up the issue of NWO to discussion, even further to fight against it.

To be fair one song that interested me lyrically is Hopenosis. I love the title, the lyrics are good and some how deep. musically i like about it the melodies and the solo after them.

An Absolute truth, i may say: The idea of comparing Omega Wave with Twisted Into Form which is one of my favs of all times, is pathetic.

This post was maybe misunderstood. Haven't tought of DM before it, but I kind of agree in this meaning : like DM, it's technical and somehow researched, but badly put together, a lack of feeling in song building that makes the album forgettable or even irritating, although we can feel it had great potential and is made out of a lot of work.
Besides, I very often found the voice inadequate.
