Bongripper - Hippie Killer

"Charlie, Burt Reynolds Has Got Shit On You" is one of my all-time favorite songs. This album defines atmo-sludge and drone.

In terms of 2007, I'd give Bongripper the edge over Rosettta's Wake/Lift or Baroness' Red Album. The instruments just create an overwhelming ambience that other sludge bands can't replicate (for me), although Given to the Rising featured some really intense atmosphere, but sometimes it comes across as a little too aggressive and ruins the balance.

EDIT: A month later I change my mind. Wake/Lift is more enveloping than this, although for different reasons. I'm not sure why I bothered comparing them to each other in the first place.

Oh!!! This was my first stoner metal album ever. I had no idea what I was listening to but I was completely mesmerized and satisfied by it.

Finally listening to this after over half a year of it being on my iPod. Shame on me, cause it's goddamn awesome.

Don't overlook this because of the band name. Seriously crushing and enveloping record.
