US punk/crossover thrash metallers D.R.I.'s guitarist and founding member Spike Cassidy is in the hospital recovering from complications after a colectomy (removal of entire colon) performed earlier this month. The recovery process may interfere with the band's future touring plans.

Cassidy was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2004, had a one-foot piece of his large intestine removed in 2006 and underwent radiation and chemotherapy but suffered a post-surgery infection in his last surgery. Doctors immediately diagnosed the issue and treated it, and he is expected to be released from the hospital in a matter of days.

Gah, that operation sounds awful. Hopefully he pulls through and is cancer free with the quickness.
