And here we have a nice post-modern piece of doom metal. This piece was written and recorded by a quartet from Little Rock, Arkansas named Pallbearer. It was released in the early months of 2012. They say this beautiful piece was created with the mindset that all is lost, and that hope is a pointless fallacy. They say that all your dreams fade away as soon as you take a listen, your aspirations to achieve, your hopes of a better life, with a new career and a family. They say all of that disappears.

Fantastic traditional doom. Fans of Warning and 40 Watt Sun will thoroughly enjoy it. Will be posting a mini-review in my list once I've given it even more listens. I'm enjoying it more and more with each listen.

A shame it didn't live up to the demo which is a lot better tbh

Is it because they used 2 of the same songs? Or because the additional 3 songs on this album aren't up to snuff in the quality department?

The two old songs are weaker than on the demo plus they didn't use their brilliant Gloomy Sunday cover and the three new songs are also not up to scratch of the two oldies

Interesting. Thanks for providing that explanation.

It is still very good. I would rate it a 7.6. I think had I not heard the demo (and owned it) I would rate it higher.

I suppose having high expectations coming into an album, and then having it not live up to said expectations puts a damper on the mood. I'm just happy to find another good band to listen to.

This is definitely an album that will grow on you, it ain't for sunny days and good moods, so it may not grab you right away. But I must say this is some powerful stuff, from the painfully slow build-up of 'Foreigner' through the haunting finale; it's heavy, emotive, mostly depressing, but alternately uplifting at times. Best Doom I've heard in a while!

This album gets stronger and stronger with every listen. I've played the album 20-30 times now, and i've only had it for a month or two. It is quite possibly my favourite Doom Metal album, or at least up there with Isole - Silent Ruins, and Warning - Watching from a Distance.

Indeed, a small drop in form after a great demo, but it's still my favorite traditional doom AOTY.

Independent of the demo, it is quite the excellent record. In my view, the demo and the album are essentially on par, even though the vocals are not quite as prominent when they are buried in the final production.
