Witch Mountain's "revival" last year in the shape of South of Salem was a big positive surprise for me and ended up as one of my top releases of 2011. Now they are back once again, this time around with Cauldron of the Wild which brings us more of the same in every possible way, something that I am absolutely fine with.
"More of the same", in this case, equals doomy stoner metal with smokey female vocals and most importantly, lots and lots of groove. The band certainly share some similarities with another favorite of mine, Royal Thunder, with the biggest differance being that Witch Mountain's music is much slower and heavier.
Without a doubt, Witch Mountain is going to position themselves high up on my top list once again with this album and that is with good reason. Cauldron of the Wild is soulful and groovy doom at its finest and I see myself listening to it a lot more in the future.
