Dust Bolt are a relatively new German thrash band looking to further chisel a place into the metal landscape with their new album Awake The Riot. As a part of the "revivalist" thrash scene, as usual, originality will be a concern for some. I'll go ahead and say right now these guys aren't the ones to go outside the box of what you would be expected from the genre. But within that proverbial box, Awake The Riot is a very enjoyable piece of work.

Thanks to the Earache architected Revivalism of the Thrash Genre that was nothing more than new kids playing SOD/Suicidal influenced Crossover, it became the best time for the bands that aim for thet Classic Thrash sound, since they stood out so easily from the rest of the bunch. While "Awake The Riot" is far from slipping into the "Classic Thrash" cathegory, it certainly doesnt sound like Municipal Waste/Gama Bomb and such. This is a more Modern aproach of Thrash without sounding Groove or Metalcore. There are some pretty good Riffs here and I have to admit there is a lot to absorb with the excelent melody in the solos that make an interesting contrast with the Slayer-like riffs. My main problem here, apart from the overproduction and the excessive ammount of choruses (Since when did this became so Cliché in Modern Thrash? Sounds so HC) has to be the Drums, they sound so bland and lifeless.

Overall, a Strong release with few things to point out except pet peeves. If you're a Mosher, this is something for you.
