Though co-lead vocalist Joris Boghtdrincker departed from Heidevolk a couple of years ago, they could not in good conscience abandon their trademark vocal harmonies, and so the barrel-chested tag-team remains intact with the new addition of Lars Vogel. At least their signature sound hasn't changed with the line-up, but Velua is a very slow starter. Read more ›› |

Very good track for track. Guitar has improved a lot with some Gothenburgian sounding riffs and even a few solos. If I were shuffling these songs with my other folk favorites, I would be more than happy to listen to any of them. Furthermore, I would venture to say that this is Heidvolk's strongest release to date. Compositions are full of windswept imagery and reach some epic heights without overdoing it. Instrumentation is stronger than ever, as apparent with the intro to "Richting De Wievenbelter." Unfortunately, as an album the repetitive vocal melodies still wear me down quite a bit. They are moving in the right direction, but have yet to create something that is enjoyable from start to finish. Full review here. Enjoyability=7 Musicianship=7.5 Innovation=7.5 Overall=7.3* Note: There should be a cap to how many groups are allowed to cover "Immigrant Song."
