My list would be some weird mix of ancient stuff and PS4/5 era as thanks to Baldur's Gate 2 and then WOW I pretty much skipped the entire later PS2 through entire PS3 era of games. Some kind of crack at it. Ultima 2 Legend of Zelda Doom Final Fantasy 7 (could really easily be 2 or 3 for me. 2 was my first and the one that hooked me) Baldur's Gate 2 SoA/ToB World of Warcraft Mass Effect Trilogy (being lazy on this one) Witcher 3 Red Dead Redemption 2 Bloodborne Elden Ring if we go Spinal Tap and up to 11. And if switching to not game play but just experience, in college, consuming "Vitaman B-12's" with friends, gotta give credit to NHL95/96, FIFA 96 or Twisted Metal. That whole Swingers playing hockey before going out... we did that before Vince and John made it cool on film. Another friend and I used to play as Scotland against the AI, he was MacCoist, I was McAlister. Never lost... then we'd go play beer pong, he was MacCoist, I was McAlister. And we NEVER lost. If one of us sucked, the other nailed everything. A girl we knew brought us back a little Scottish flag that we'd place on the edge of the net. Played lots of great games, lots of absolute shit games.

My list would actually be a mix of pretty much every period since the late 80's early 90's, leaning a bit more towards modern stuff. I had a 7-year no console gaming (and almost no gaming at all) gap from my first steps in Uni in late 1999 until I went to work at EA in Lyon in 2006, due to student life and moving a lot across France and Europe. Made up for lost time since then - I don't think I had ever played as much as I do now. Being a freelancer actually leaves me with a lot of free time. Anyway, about that list, the first three are in order, can't really rank the rest: The Witcher 3 - The story-based game I spent the most time on, ever. Completed it 4 times so far, fifth run in progress. A masterpiece of writing and character building. Couldn't play much else for months afterwards. A Link To The Past - I could've picked other Zelda games, such as the OG or Ocarina Of Time, but this one has it all as the perfect transition between the 2D adventure of the first two and what the franchise would become with 3D games. And it still holds up to this day. Okami - Granted, it's just a Zelda-like and it loses steam towards the end, but the melancholy that seeps through the game gives it a very special mood. And do I really need to mention the art direction? Final Fantasy X - Could've been 7 or 8, but this one really hooked me big time. Demon's Souls - My first Souls. Hollow Knight - Where challenging combat meets top notch world-building and rewarding exploration. Still can't wrap my head around the fact that this was created by only a couple of people. Dishonored - Mood, exploration, infiltration, freedom, art direction, Dishonored. Super Mario Bros 3 - I couldn't not include a Mario game, either this one or Mario 64. Spent countless hours on the two. 3 is the first one remade to perfection. 64 is 3D platforming done right at a time when 3D platforming sucked. Heroes Of Might And Magic III - The only PC game of the lot, spent many a sleepless night farming ore, building cities and troops and beating the shit out of demons. Disco Elysium - Finally decided to include this one as it has some of the best writing I've seen in a game, ever. Already gave my thoughts on it in the main Video Games thread. Crazy game. Those that almost made it: Portal 2, Batman Arkham City, Red Dead Redemption, Horizon: Zero Dawn, What Remains Of Edith Finch, Return Of The Obra Dinn, Broken Sword. And the two games I clocked the most hours in: Football Manager 2001 (when back home from university) and Super Mario Kart (SNES)/Mario Kart 64.

30.03.2022 - 14:27 Written by Deadsoulman on 29.03.2022 at 10:08 There it is. Seems like we have a few in common. I was thinking of putting Okami in my list as well, but figured the PS2 was already sufficiently represented, haha. Still my favourite era of gaming, but that might be the nostalgia speaking...

30.03.2022 - 17:35 Written by Zap on 30.03.2022 at 14:27 I kind of missed the boat on the PS2 era as it fell right in the middle of that no gaming gap I was mentioning in my post. Got on board pretty late and switched almost immediately to PS3. It means I missed out on quite a lot of the classics of that era (never played Shadow Of The Colossus, Devil May Cry, God Of War or MGS 2/3 for instance). So it's already quite a miracle, given how little PS2 I've played, that two games of that gen ended in my top 10 ![]() Okami is the game that got me back into gaming by the way ![]()

02.04.2022 - 01:22 Written by CWA on 30.03.2022 at 00:49 This. I really wish I could experience all of these games over again with a fresh set of eyes. I just finished my first run of Elden Ring and I am sad it’s over. It felt like forever for this game to get released. But the FromSoft games are forever my favorite titles hands down.

I can't name 10, I have 4 favorites: The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and Red Dead Redemption. PS3, Xbox 360, Silent Hill 2 - Directors Cut. PC, PS2, Xbox. The remaining games were deleted because of a virus, many files I have recovered through salvagedata.com, but the games are not among them. My PC is no longer able to withstand such a heavy load, as before, besides I don't have time to play often. Have you played those games that I named? There was also some video game about hunting zombies, but I don't remember the name.

Monkey Island 3 Broken Sword 1&2&5 Half-Life & Counter Strike (& mods) Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 Jade Empire (this may come as a surprise, I know) Witcher series Deus Ex Total War series (Rome, Medieval, Empire) Fallouts Hard West (on hard difficulty) Not sure if best or what I just grew up with aka nostalgia. Other honorary mentions go to: Icewind Dales, Planescape Torment, Dragon Age series, Wasteland 2 & 3, ATOM rpg & Trudograd, Banner Saga, Operation Flashpoint & its mods -- maybe throw in Jagged Alliance 2 here too, I'm currently unable to play it. Maybe there's some others that I am forgetting right now and also there's some games I am playing and currently not finished -- like Hard West 2.

31.03.2023 - 20:16 Written by JC Steele on 18.03.2023 at 20:59 Not really, not at all. Jade Empire is probably the only really good game (together with Dragon Age: Origins) that BioWare made since KOTOR. It's really a shame that playing this game nowadays is a massive pain in the ass, frequent crashes on modern hardware are almost guaranted.

31.03.2023 - 22:33 Written by nepalski on 31.03.2023 at 20:16 Luckily I played it on the old OS that it was designed for. It is probably the only game I know that had the Taoist mythology and the setting, that I'm quite fond of. As an avid fan of Lao Tzu, Chuang Tzu, Mantak Chia, Stephen T Chang, Kung Fu, you know it, I have looked in to it. Probably I wouldn't try all of these games that I mentioned on a modern set up, they're from the past and from the early 2000s (I know Jagged Alliance 2 is pretty hard to run these days, too). Past cannot be repeated, but those who know, they now ![]()

31.03.2023 - 23:02 Written by JC Steele on 31.03.2023 at 22:33 I played all of the rest games that you had mentioned (except broken sword and monkey island) and the versions that you can get digitally (steam, gog, etc.) work pretty well. Wish that Jade Empire and first Dragon Age could get same treatment as Mass Effect series, because they deserve it. Tbh in the modern era of remakes and reboots they could really pull it off with new Jade Empire game, the setting is fairly unique and the BioWare trademark would do the marketing.
