Metallica take notes, this is how you age gracefully!
why pick on Metallica out of the blue?!
Also, for me Metallica have redeemed themselves with the last two albums.
Because the last two Judas Priest albums are insanely better than the last two Metallica albums
That does not back up the statement that Metallica did not age gracefully.

As someone who doesn't really like Judas Priest or regular heavy metal all that much, this is so good

Oh my, what an overwhelming energy! Somewhere in the galaxy some lonely K.K. must be crying in the corner right now. I listen to this art of piece and just can't believe my ears. I can't believe that a band as old as Judas Priest can produce such strong album. Bravo!

What an album, what a performance.
Rob Halford still sounds as fantastic as ever. I am absolutely gobsmacked how a band with 3 70+ year olds, including a 76 year old, can have so much energy. Inspiring stuff!

The album starts really strong, with the first three songs being the best of the album. The rest are not on the same level, but there are loads of catchy choruses and great riffs. I think Escape From Reality is probably the weakest song. I haven't heard the bonus tracks, but maybe they could've included one of them in the standard edition instead of Escape From Reality.
Overall it's a phenomenal effort for a band 50+ years into their career.

One of their best releases. Very energetic and modern yet sounds partly like good old Painkiller record

*not to be the Iron Maiden hater that I usually am but this stomps all over anything those chaps have released in the past 30 years.
Why compare the music of these 2 bands anyway? When IM debuted, JP released their 6th album, so it's not even the same generation. The music both bands play is quite different within the genre they both represent, the singers are not very much alike either.
For the same reason Nikarg gave in the staff pick:
Quote:
Next time someone tells you that you should lower your expectations and just be grateful when a legacy band puts out new music, even when that music is objectively subpar/shite, slap them in the face with this album.
They're both legacy bands and I feel like Bruce Dickinson is often defended for his sub-par vocal performances due to his age when Halford is still spot-on. Anyway I don't want to drag this out, I'll gladly admit I'm extremely biased as I always preferred Priest's style of heavy metal (you're right, they sound very different).

Album is full of easy listening tracks with lots of catchy riffs but the high point is its the umpteenth album by a veteran band with a still-young and energetic frontman. Applauds for bringing out another above average album when we all thought that such a thing will never happen again.

I had an incredible start to my day by finally listening to this album. It’s really great. I wonder what it’s like to compose and produce music 50+ years into such a celebrated career. Were the nuanced and brilliant tempo changes in the verse riffing of Devil In Disguise a result of deliberate planning or a spontaneous occurrence during jamming? Maybe Metal Gods don’t need to consciously consider the fundamental truth that a strong riff is mostly shaped by the rhythm, less by the melody? Maybe they know it intuitively and have for a long time, so they just write riffs like that because they’re so fucking metal that the only thing they’ve ever needed to fear is Magneto.
I am not saying they didn’t put huge amounts of effort into this album, though, I am just speculating and rambling. Creating an album this amazing requires both inspiration and a passionate dedication to honing your craft.

Fantastic release.
For me, easily the best heavy metal release of 2024. Send me recs if I'm missing.
Judas Priest after 55 yrs still kicking hard and fast.
"Devil in Disguise" and "Crown of Horns" is fucking amazing. Get lot of reps.

The best of the best, deserves it's number one position. My favorites will have to be crown of horns and trial by fire.

One of my favourite YT channels is Nate Garrett's ( Spirit Adrift), and he is giving his opinion on this video (from 31'45'' to 35'05'' about Invincible Shield being the best album of the year, featuring the song with the best solo, and overall best vocal performance (duh).

I just watched that oddly enough.
He says it's the best album of the year, but not HIS best album of the year. I get that, if you're trying to promote some new bands.
I was surprised, but pleased Blood Incantation didn't even get a mention.
