06.12.2011 - 09:22 Written by Troy Killjoy on 06.12.2011 at 09:21 deathcore is just a modern continuation and furthering of the death metal sound, just like brutal wankery death is of old school death

06.12.2011 - 17:47 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 06.12.2011 at 09:22 Myeah, dunno if it's just me (and trve kvlt br00tal death metal purists would probably try to surprise buttrape me for this) but I find deathcore and brutal death metal (as a genre) to be extremely similiar to each other. Both are using death metal riffs/structures with very distorted/indecipherable vocals (when compared, old school death metal vocals are quite intelligible, in Immolation, Edge of Sanity, Entombed, etc. I can often hear what they are saying, whereas I am not even sure if the vocalist of let's say Defeated Sanity actually utters the lyrics or just gargles into the mic) and both seem to have a rather large emphasis on breakdowns, pretty much all BDM albums I have heard before was completely littered with breakdowns, often even more so than Deathcore ones, just the DC ones tend to be more blatantly obvious. And both ones can be terribly boring if done badly :<. I can generally recognize the difference between the two but if I was asked to describe them both to an outside person who doesn't know much about metal, my two descriptions would probably be extremely similiar if not the same. Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 06.12.2011 at 09:20 Question, though: What exatly core is in what you call Deathcore though? I have not heard that many Deathcore records at all but most of them had vocal styles very similiar to this, they tend not to use cleans at all, and I can1t even find trace of the 'hardcore' vocals found in hardcore or melodic metalcore or w/e at all.

06.12.2011 - 17:53 Written by Uldreth on 06.12.2011 at 17:47 I think the only difference between bdm and deathcore is the way they dress and the way the act in the pit. But a deathcore kid and bdm fan would never subscribe to that point of view

08.10.2012 - 09:41 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 06.12.2011 at 17:53 There are subtle differences. The three main differences are attitude, production, and some rhythmic variation. Attitude: This is probably the most important. If a deathcore band gets on stage in front of a bunch of "true" death metal people and they all look young, like they care about their appearance, no long hair, no cool goatees, then their music is going to be judged more negatively by your typical death metal fan. Basically, if they don't look like a hippie, straight out of the 90s, or have a nuetral appearance and stage persona, then they are deathcore (if they also follow the more typical deathcore rhythmic variation to death metal which I will get into later) On a side note.... lol @ death/black/thrash elitists trying so hard to be non conformis, only to form one of the most bias conformity's of today. Production: Deathcore tends to have a more modern sound, because nobody is trying to copy oldschool bands at this point. Deathcore is the new death metal. Yes, it lacks originality, but so did a lot of the 90s death metal bands. A lot of them sucked, and this is coming from someone who loves OSDM. Rhythm: Musically, this is the biggest defining factor, because harmonically, the music still revolves heavily around diminished and harmonic minor ideas. The difference with deathcore is that you can replace a lot of the recurring 16th note parts found in a lot OSDM (Death - Leprosy for example), and replace these with breakdowns or more complicated rhythms. Its actually very contrasting if you think about it. The 16th note tremolo thing in OSDM, which is really catchy and simple, is replaced by something more technical and harder on the ears. All in all, the rhythmic dynamics of deathcore tend to be much more choppy than in death metal, which has more of a flow. Deathcore is without a doubt more complicated and even more talented than some OSDM, but I think its a shitty excuse for the evolution of death metal, but a lot of new aged (and old) death metal bands are shitty excuses for death metal as well. So, what makes something deathcore or death metal is ultimately a stupid question. The question is whether or not it sucks, or is worth listening to.
