Black Metal was the center of the media attention back in the 90's when the church burning, killings and suicides happened down in Norway (If you don't have the slightest idea of what I'm talking, read "Lord Of chaos" a must-read for all of you Blacksters out there). Anyway, after the rise of Norwegian Black Metal, a lot of bands of a lot of countries started spawning bands, and without going too far from the birthplace of the genre, Calvarium was born in Finland.
Calvarium offer us a very noisy Black Metal, my first opinion was that the production leaves a lot to wish for, the vocals are just annoying and the overall sound is disturbing.
As for the music, nothing special here, sorry folks, move along, nothing to see here. Calvarium don't bring any new elements to the scene neither do the classic elements in a proper way.
Of course this album is not a total flaw, I've heard worst, believe me, but after a whole spin, Calvarium leaves me unsatisfied and yearning for a more established Black Metal act.
Better luck next time guys, for those who like Black Metal, I would try first and buy later, and if you have a Black Metal band, after hearing this you'll have that "been there, done that" felling. These guys are right in one thing, is a Calvarium to hear this record 2 times in a row. Not recommended.
