+ The Making Of "Elements Of Creation" [video]
Swedish Power Metallers Supreme Majesty returns with their third full-length album, "Elements of Creation", with the intentions of overcome the smaller success their last album "Danger" caused in Power Metal circuits, two years ago.
But do the have the material and skills to really overcome that eighties-oozing Metal album? Well, I hope I'll have the answer for you before this review ends.
The first thing you'll notice is that the imminent eighties feeling is like blown away, all those "Europe-wannabe" keyboards are gone, and Supreme Majesty now sound like they origin from our millennium, and not the past one.
Otherwise everything is pretty much the same, it's very melodic and catchy hymns we're given, and with a great production (recorded in JFK Studios and mixed/mastered in Studio Fredman) and with Joakim's special and soft voice you will get the same vibes like last time.
But (yes, I have a "but" to add here too), I feel that the material this time is weaker, there's neither a "Heroes of Our Land" nor an "Until the End of Time" on this record. But on the other side, this records material it much more even than the material on "Danger", where the difference between the best and the less-best songs was quite big.
But still, there should be at least two tracks that are outstanding if you want to compete with all the millions of other Metal bands today, and unfortunately, "Elements of Creation" is missing those.
But among the tracks I think is slight better than the rest is "Spellbound" that has potential to develop unto a great track, the chorus is very catchy.
The harder "My Revenge", has some really delicious riffing in the intro and in the middle-parts.
And also the "ballad" "One More Promise" is a goodie, fantastic lyrics mixed with Joakim's sensitive way of singing, truly a great ballad.
And last the re-recorded "Die in a Dream" (that first appeared on the debut MCD, "Divine Enigma in 1999), this is the best played song on the album, maybe not that strange since its six years old, but it's also a great track with a good chorus.
Supreme Majesty's strength is without doubts their catchy choruses, without those, I don't think they would appeal anyone.
The choruses together with Joakim Olsson behind the microphone and a tight-playing band, Supreme Majesty will have to wait at least another album before they'll reach their peak, their best moment, because "Elements of Creation" is unfortunately not the album to rise the band out of the shadows, but I don't doubt the bands talent, they will rise, just not this year!
Check Out: "Spellbound", "My Revenge", "One More Promise" & "Die in a Dream".
