King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard with one of their best albums, always true to themselves.
The band, across their many albums, have successes like Nonagon Infinity, as well as slightly less interesting albums, such as The Silver Cord, their latest release at the time of this review. Their memorable style allows you to recognize almost all their albums, this one included.
They manage to establish a psychedelic atmosphere that is very unique. I like this slightly muffled sound, which allows the band to be quite easily recognizable. You know you're listening to one of their albums when you feel like you're listening to the music behind a wall, it's rather unique. The somewhat echoing vocals are also interesting, although I got tired of them quite quickly, which was not the case with other albums like PetroDragonic Apocalypse; However, Dawn Of Eternal Night: An Annihilation Of Planet Earth And The Beginning Of Merciless Damnation, which succeeded on this point where I'm In Your Mind Fuzz failed. The reason for this, in my opinion, is the style, because in this album, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard approaches a very rock style, compared to the rather metal sound of PetroDragonic Apocalypse.
This album differs from the others because it approaches rock in a much more effective way than three quarters of their discography. Most of the music succeeds in its job: rather simple and catchy, particularly when coupled with the singular style of the band.
Personally, I'm just not a huge fan of their style, although I recognize its qualities. The album is effective, certainly; however, the music is not the most exciting, nor the most intriguing that I have heard. Although it offers a good listening experience, I am not convinced by I'm In Your Mind Fuzz, not because the album is bad, but quite simply because I'm not a big fan of their style. Indeed this album is not for everyone; it is accessible, but not everyone will like the style of the group, and even less the style of the album.
Finally, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard produced with I'm In Your Mind Fuzz one of their best albums, however their particular style cannot please everyone in the world, and this album features a much more rock-oriented and lighter style than albums like Nonagon Infinity. If you want to try this album, remember that the band are specialists in changing musical genre with each album, so each of their albums does not fully represent the band. In any case, I'm In Your Mind Fuzz is a pretty cool album to listen to, and in my opinion, it's a good introduction to the band.
