The album is a pummeling machine filled with melodic edges, it's a great opportunity for the fans of Amon Amarth or Dark Tranquility. The best thing with Passages to Eternity comes in the technical department, these Mexican guys know how to improve the songwriting by adding a couple of layers in the riffs and a lot of super-catchy beats, and they are even smart enough to add strong solos in the songs.
It might be not the most original type of music ever to exist, but damn Baal does a great job by twisting a lot of schemes to finally sound a bit different in most parts, things like clean vocals, groovy parts here and there, explosive breakdowns and mellow outros are the things that make Baal a groundbreaking band, different to all those copycats out there trying to sound just like Heartwork era Carcass or like At The Gates. No wonder why State of Aggression impressed me that much, this band was amazing from the beginning now I know.
This re-master includes a nice video for Warcall presented in cool sepia chromes, the video shows a lot of war images, the band playing live, bottles of beer and a lot of cool moshpits; it's fun to watch it believe me, and I've always loved when a CD has this kind of extra features. So if you're into this genre don't hesitate and buy it, you'll love it no doubt.
