Only one year after the release date of their first album, "Bombshell", the quintet from Huntington (USA), Hydrogyn, is back with their first live album, "Strip' Em Blind Live". The first album was promising but I still don't understand why the band had to release this live so early in their career. This is not a bad release at the opposite and I heard a lot of good things about their live performances but still, I don't know why they chose to release it?

"Strip' Em Blind Live" is a good live album. The performance of Hydrogyn is convincing and the recording is really good. You can easily hear the audience and no problem with the instruments (here the guitars are even more powerful than on the album) and the voice of Julie. One more time the singer proves that she is a really good singer with a real true voice perfect for Rock n Roll and Hard Rock despite one more time a really average "doll" image which doesn't look classy at all in my opinion. But the songs are well played and yes it's obvious that Hydrogyn is a band made for the lives, though of course here if you already have the album you'll not find anything new and then it's probably not a must for your discography.

So what is the real interest to release such an album? Well, as I know the band got a lot of great feedbacks (especially in France) about their live performances and I think that they probably chose to record one of their show to immortalize this first tour. Though this is also in reason of some business mater? Well, I don't think that it's a bad choice but for sure this is not a wise one. I mean that ok, the live is good no problem but the people who already have the first album don't have any interest to buy this release? It was probably a better choice for Hydrogyn to wait to have at least two releases but well business is business after all?

I have nothing to add, "Strip' Em Blind Live" is a good live album but this is a bit like a new edition of their first release and if you have the first on, no need to buy this CD. At the opposite if you want some good Hard Rock try to see if the band will not play in your city, they tour a lot and then you'll be able to see with your own eyes if Hydrogyn deserve your interest or not.
