Although there are metal bands of all genres hailing from Bulgaria, a very large portion of the scene is composed of black metal. Here are some of the best bands.

Frozen Tears
- Arise of the Ancient Flame / Rise the Pagan Forest
Atmospheric pagan black metal. As of 2010, there are 11 demos (many of them promos) and seven full-lengths. One of the biggest BM names in Bulgaria.

Raggradarh side-project. Many demos and one full-length released in 2009. Raw black metal.

Nuklear Annihilation
- Destruktive Warmachine
Old school black metal in the vein of Darkthrone. One EP and one demo as of 2010.

Bleeding Thorn
- Darkness Born Black
Formed in 1995, this is their full-length from 2003. Not much is known about them, other than they split up afterwards.

Mortem Animalium
- The Decay of Time
Very raw old school BM. Worth picking up.
|
|
6.
Perverse Monastyr
- Perverse Monastyr
Gas mask-wearing aggressive BM outfit. Three full-lengths thus far.

Primitive Angel Gospoden
- Drunemeton
Slightly melodic BM. One demo and two split releases.
|

8.
Pantokrator
- When the Earth Cries
Melodic black metal with elements of folk and gothic, inspired by Bulgarian culture. One demo and two full-lengths. Status unknown.

Orenda
- Back in the Grave
These guys take the visual aesthetic kind of seriously, but they have some decent atmospheric BM to make up for it. Two full-lengths so far.

Serpentine Creation
- Dystopia
Released their first full-length in 2009. Great, classic satanic BM.

Svarrogh
- Baxas Xebesheth 1883
Released three demos and one compilation. Great pagan BM. Raw and gloomy. Later disbanded, the members forming Ork.

Ork
- Blessed by Evil
Four demos and three full-lengths. One of the best bands Bulgaria has.

14.
Skyggeverden
- Dark Providence
One full-length. Strongly influenced by old school Norwegian BM.
|
|
15.
Pantokrator
- The Mystic Possession of Darkness
Very rare, apparently it's sold out according to the record label, but it's significant.

16.
Krater
- Hell
Probably one of the first Bulgarian BM bands. More like blackened death, released their demo Hell in 1991. Great and historically significant.

17.
Vrani Volosa
- Where The Heart Burns
Released two EPs and one compilation, currently on hold. Very morbid, well-executed black metal.

18.
Sarakt
- Sarakt
Released one full-length and one demo, both eponymously titled Sarakt. Also happens to be reviewed here. Historic black metal. Disbanded later on.

Svarrogh
- Baxas Xebesheth 1883
Blackened folk band, later became neofolk.

Biophobia
- You Are God, You Are Nothing
Extreme black metal with a touch of death metal. Currently on hold.

Darkmoon Rising
- As the Dark Moon Rises
Melodic black metal. Two demos and one split.

Innerhell
- Enemy of the World
Pagan black/dark ambient. Two demos, one full-length and one single. Well worth checking out, especially if you like metal which has an epic vibe.

- Inner Satan
Three demos and one split. Satanic/occult BM.
