After Amorphis' last outing that being Elegy back in 1996 if you're expecting an album of the same nature well some may be disappointed where others will revel in Amorphis' new found direction in metal. Almost completely gone are the harsh vocals of the old days and also the guitar and keyboard sounds are different now also. The most notable thing about the new found way but, is how damn good Pasi Koskinen's vocals sound on this album. Vocals are all clean now and are very easy to get into.

I personally consider this to be one of the weaker albums in the band's discography, although not quite the worst, since I believe Far From The Sun is worse. "Shining" is one of the more annoying (and bad, at least for their standards) Amorphis songs I've ever heard, I really can't stand that song for some reason. There are a few songs on here that I especially enjoy, like "Greed", "The Way", "Tuonela", and "Divinity". However the best song BY FAR for me is the last song "Summer's End", which is one of the best Amorphis songs I've ever heard... it's so beautiful.

Ordinary men hate solitude. But the Master makes use of it, embracing his aloneness, realizing he is one with the whole universe (Lao Tzu).

This album helps me a lot with depressions...every single song of it, but specially the first half of the album!
I don't know, it's more touching!!!

i tend to have the exactly same 5 songs as favoured ones from this album, though i probably like it more.

it's not spectacular but imo it's a pretty solid album and i prefer this change in style the band made. tha previous singer was also very good with a special/different voice. i'll give this one a rating between 8 or 9.

great album!

Bad English

Well somehow I liked change from DM to calmer vocal sound but this was way to fast and lame, good whit Joutsen band somehow goes emotional and changes sound as I like, but this I hated it back in a days, and I don't worship it now either.

It's obvious that when band drastically changes the sound there are always negative voices. For me 'Tuonela' is great on it's own. Pasi have specific, 'nose like' voice, which fits perfectly to this prog-gothic sound. Both with 'Am Universum' speaks to me with a specific 'thing' that I love.

I love the inclusion of the flute on this record, and it helps this album to stand on its own among a long and brilliant Amorphis discography. I know a lot of people are never going to be happy that this band didn't just do 1000 Lakes over and over again, but I personally enjoy the fact that they're reinvented themselves multiple times. Quality listen, this.
