Classic Monster of Earache Records! Highly Recommended

Some say Heartwork is the last good album that carcass made in their career, well sure it isn't the great symphonies of sickness, but it has some good highlights hidden that most people don't ever hear or refuses to hear.

To begin with, the vocals in the entire CD are quite different from the other Carcass albums, here Walker screams more than he growls (in fact since Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious the vocals were a lot more different), it sounds a lot like Chuck's voice from the band Death, but not in a bad way, the vocals are fine and Walker knows how to give the album a great environment.

Unrefined? It's probably their most refined release. :/

Well it is Carcass' most refined but that doesnt mean its refined compared to other bands. Some riffs just seem outof place and dont flow with the rest of the song

Simple (compared to older Carcass), obviously inspired by 'The Black Album' and 'Countdown to Extinction'. The solos are cool, although I find I cannot listen to this album too often, there is not much to delve into.

Excellent album, even if the songwriting is a little 'simpler' than the complex and technical precision of its predecessor. I think every track here is pretty damn memorable, and although the shorter tracks leave the listener wanting a bit more, it is still well worth otaining the album.

I just found a copy of this on cassette and in really good condition! This is some really kick ass melodic death metal that for some reason went beyond my radar till now... I guess i have always thought of carcass as a grindcore band and never realized their true talent. Ohh well, I have this amazing work of art in in inventory now \m/

Melodious
Compared with it's predecessor which was a death metal masterpiece, this one is a bit weaker. However, it's one of the seminal, and pioneering albums of melodic death metal, and is for the most part a great album. The main riff of the title track is one of my all-time fave riffs, and there's much to savour elsewhere too. Slightly weaker than Necroticism...but still a fine album in it's own right. I love a lot of the riffs and solos on this album.

One of the most original melodic death metal releases I've heard. Despite that the melodies put me off, I think this is worth a solid 9.

Not my favorite album in the world, but when I first listened to it, I didn't know what year it was from. When I learned it was from 1993, I was very surprised. Sounds way ahead of its time.

Very good one. Early days of melodic death.
While the predecessor is a bit too brutal for me, this one is just fine.
Next to the popular hightlights, Embodiment and title track, I'd like to point out the brilliant mortal coil here.
Quite a letdown right after the latter, though.

Definitely more polished than its predecessor but there's still something off about it, I absolutely hate that I can't figure out what it is. I like necroticism's songs a bit more but this is definitely a very good album

Giger > you.

Infact, it can seriously potentially replace the last part of your signature.

But at least the simple font kills on this. And I was gonna come in here saying this and Giger might even be getting into the underrated chamber a bit too much these days.

"Embodiment" has some riffs/tone that sound like they inspired Amon Amarth. Anyone else hear it?
