When we talk about originality, only one name must come to your mind, Waltari. Two years after their previous release, the excellent "Blood Sample", our Finnish Crazy Metalers are back with their new album "Release Date". And as always with this Finnish band, it's extremely hard to categorize their music. Between Thrash, Funk, Heay, Prog, Electro and even Hip Hop or Brutal Death, the new Waltari is a real musical UFO. That's right, this is probably a real "hate or love" album but damn at least it's super original, fresh and surprising.

As is often the case with bands that hop from one genre to another on every track (or even within tracks), the end result tends to be a bit too disorganized and schizophrenic to appreciate fully, even by those of us who love music of this sort. Inevitably, what happens is that we create playlists from songs on the album that go well together or make good use of the "Next" button on our media players. I am sure fans of bands like Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Carnival In Coal, Dillinger Escape Plan, Glassjaw, Secret Chiefs 3, Buckethead, Fishbone and Praxis are quite familiar with this syndrome. Luckily, there are some great exceptions to this rule and I'm happy to say that, in my opinion, Waltari's latest release Release Date is one of them.
