Over the past few years In Flames have been wandering down questionable paths as far as long-time fans are concerned, some abandoned the band completely and the others decided that the new In Flames isn't really all that bad after all, and stuck with them. "A Sense Of Purpose" is a shockingly low blow to the second group of people here as In Flames continue to push towards the twelve-year-old, black dyed fringe bearing individual market - and this time do it in a way that indefinitely is the straw that breaks the camel's back and will not be tolerated by long-running fans.

Rating: 3 Unbelievably weak. I'm almost glad that it was the first In Flames album I listened to, otherwise I'm sure that I would have been heart broken.
thewall30 - 28.01.2010 at 04:55
Rating: 9 Not really sure why this album gets bad ratings, the album is nothing compared to their early works, but its got some pretty good songs... I'm a fan of it for sure.
Uirapuru - 28.01.2010 at 10:46
Rating: 2 Yeah... my bet is that not even the few who enjoy the recent In Flames liked this album.

Horrible to almost everyone...
The great lich - 02.02.2010 at 22:28
Its not as bad as other said....but the album cover is better than musics.maybe the bad thing in this album is (all of the tracks have same rythm)
Thor arise - 15.02.2010 at 23:16
Rating: 6 It's quite good ...the first 9 songs except i'm teh highway are good or really good..but teh rest...condemned is the worst song ever made in in flames history..since i'am a true in flames fan...i must say...that this album.. is good...but not more than that...

And you who dislike this cd,you are not true In Flames fans! You suck!A sense of purpose fucks!

I'm surely not a true fan cause imo its a mediocre album, better than Soundtrack and R2R, but worse than their old stuff. It fucks... lol

But The chosen pessimist is a crime. This song deserves a fat 1*.
danielllewis - 22.02.2010 at 01:09
Rating: 4 Obviously this album is terrible overall, but did anyone else notice that most of the songs had the same riff, but it was just played faster, slower, or backwards? Try to listen to it again, it's pretty funny once you pick up on that.

The album cover and lyrics are fucking stupid also.

Rating: 7 I like this album after all, my favourite ones are Clayman and Colony, but I like it just because it is different...It does not have to be so heavy and screamy, especially the "singing parts" are very good, I dont see any reason why fuck up with this album...Yeah, I would like next album faster and heavier, but still, A Sense Of Purpose left in me good feelings.

After Clayman they sound like heavier Linkin Park! And you who dislike this cd,you are not true In Flames fans! You suck!A sense of purpose fucks!

First setence is completely true. In Flames have just turned into the new Linkin Park. About your second sentence, i just have to say: Listen to The Jester Race, YOU POSER! That wasn't even Gottemburg, it was True Melodic Death Metal, a genre which came from both Death and Black Metal, and was created by bands such as In Flames and At the Gates.

In Flames

Rating: 1 I've heard every album by this band... Not to mention a lot of other crappy shit from other crappy shit bands. But this album takes the cake for poopshit crap music.
There was no freakin effort even put into it. A SENSE OF PURPOSE FUCKS!(every metalhead in the ass with a large, spiky, splintery, wooden dildo)
aerobat97 - 01.09.2011 at 19:14
Rating: 8 I agree, it's not as good as Jester Race, but I still think it's pretty good.

Drop c and growls, does not a good album make.

There are growls in this album? Couldn't hear them over the sound of all the whining scream.

  This album is very underrated.
I gave it a go one day, and seriously, it's not -bad- as people state it to be. "The Mirror's Truth" is one of the best (intro) songs I have listened to. And then "Disconnected", okay some lyrics in it are unnecessary, but still catchy. And then I find out, once again, one of the things that glues me to In Flames. Their ballads/slow paced songs, "The Chosen Pessimist" is an awesome song with awesome lyrics, and people complained about their lack of originality during the last albums?

After listening to all of In Flames albums, I got to say, I like them all (except Lunar Strain, Mikael Stanne just doesn't go with In Flames)

"A Sense of Purpose" is a road trying to drive us back, very slowly, to old days. In the end, a very good album
scapeplan - 21.06.2012 at 14:53
Despite this being their lowest rated album, I find this to be by far the best album of the "bad" era of In Flames.

Rating: 6 Alias popped up while i was listening to my PS3 music (from about a year ago). It's a groovy tune, I like it a lot, too bad (from what I remember) the entire album is essentially the same riff.

Man I think there's some substance to that statement. To be honest there's some seriously nice riffs on the 2 songs I listened to (the first two) and if you ignore the cringe-worthy vocal work/lyrics it's actually not that bad.

Although I did only listen to 2 songs. Could be a shitfest later on
Sync - 14.07.2012 at 18:31
Rating: 8 When I started to get into metal, I absolutely cherished this album. Tracks like Alias, I'm The Highway and Delight And Angers i think are really good. IMO their best album of the "New In Flames" era, on par with their latest effort.
Zadion - 21.05.2013 at 09:13
Rating: 7 I suppose I'm one of the few who really enjoy this album. It's no "The Jester Race," but I'd say it's probably their best since Colony.
Moose - 30.10.2013 at 03:24
Rating: 7 Similar to what Sync said above, I loved this album in my early days of listening to metal... back in the times of Killswitch, Trivium, etc. Listening to it now I still find it enjoyable.
