With only one EP and one full-length record under their belt, The Zenith Passage have already become regarded as arguably the hottest new act in the tech-death scene; Datalysium is likely going to cement that status.

Was looking forward to this. It started off alright but it was towards the end of the album where the real great stuff is. Really enjoyed the last few tracks and will listen to on the regular.

Didn't think much to this album at all at first, but eventually, after repeat listening, it kinda starts to sink in, and slowly starts to make sense. I greatly appreciate the level of musicianship that's gone into this, some of the technical guitar work is a work of genius, just not my sorta thing, personally, I don't mind a bit of technicality, but I prefer a slightly more melodic approach tbh (Quo Vadis, Beyond Creation and Obscura for instance). The last two tracks, however, are actually quite decent, and kinda save the album for me in the end.

Am I right in saying this sounds like a cross between Archspire and Ne Obliviscaris.

It's more like The Faceless than anything else tbh. Maybe the last few songs gave you the NeO vibe?

Yeah I hear no NeO here - it's more an overlap of The Faceless, Necrophagist and Obscura with a hint of Cynic IMO

It was the last few tracks in particular, I think it was when the cleans were introduced that it reminded me of NeO most, but ever so slightly.

Changing this to a 10. The beginning of the album is amazing, but the ending is even better. Divinertia I & II are amongst the best tech death tracks of all time IMHO...

So it sounds like Necrophagist, Archspire and The Faceless? Guess I can skip this one.

Thanks for letting us know I guess 🤔

To cut to the chase ”Datalysium” is (almost) perfect in my book & it met my high expectations. TZP are super talented & it would be nitpicky of me to complain about some minor stuff i subjectively do not enjoy as much on their magnum opus. To digress, I recently also gave a listen to Gorod`s ”The Orb” and needless to say I am equally impressed by both releases! Sad to see ”The Orb” being underrated a bit on MS though cause it deserves to be in eight-ish range & in top lists of `23 as much as ”Datalysium” does. Hopefully TZP will enrich their discography with new masterpieces sooner rather then later!

Favourite release of 2023 so far. This is a masterclass in tech death. Hope this band keeps it up at this level in future releases. Incredible.

The album is extremely enjoyable throughout, but the last two songs really elevate it above other tech death records. I would be excited to see the band explore this melodic/progressive direction in the future, but even the more conventional parts of the album are still top notch.
Really digging the inclusion of keyboards and the more restrained pacing of the whole thing.

Gorod are consistently great and "The Orb" is definitely no exception, it would make my top ten of the year right now I think.

Loving this band. Huge fan of Tech Death with groovy riffs like Pestilence and Soreption. "The Axiom Of Error" in particular has an extremely catchy riff in the middle that's worth listening to on repeat for me.

This album reminds me of everything I’ve always loved about tech death after getting kinda bored with the genre these past couple years. It’s insanely good, and if it has a single shortcoming it’s only that there are obvious comparisons that can be made (The Faceless for obvious reasons, Necrophagist, etc.) But Zenith Passage are executing at such a level that it sounds fresh and exciting, and the replay value in my opinion exceeds all but a handful of all time great albums in the genre.

This is really really good stuff. It’s a no brainer if you like tech death, with plenty here worth checking out even if you’ve ignored the subgenre for a bit. Come on back. It’s worth it!

Should be in top 10. Very unique and clean chops. Is that because of the way the guitar is tuned? The fluttering sound is really cool.
