I really don't have any respect for Varg but, by the black metal gods, this is an eerie and beautiful album.

I'm still attempting to make sense of the second half of this album. The first 3 songs are near perfect but the other 3 are, pardon my Norwegian, ar-piercars-ar-shirter.

Nah... I think the first 4 are amazing, the fourth song is eerie as fuck. Only the other 2 are the weird ones since the last one is the same as song 4 which is kind of like... dumb.

I just want to know why Varg thought that a 20 minute + drone song was a worthy addition. I like the tune, but don't want to listen to it for more than 7 minutes, say. I might see the merit in track 4 if it weren't followed by 2 clusterfucks. Give me drums! I've always thought of this as two albums. A double-feature. The first is Vertigo and the second is Big Momma's House.

Well, I disagree Gebrechlichkeit .I. is perfect as it is, there's no use for drums as I can't even think about how they should sound to fit the slow and eerie atmosphere. If I could change the album... I would have the first 4 tracks unchanged, the fifth would be 10 minutes and the last one wouldn't exist. There we got a nice 41 minutes album, fair enough for me.

I only have one problem with this album-and that is,that its just too damn long. 'Rundgang...', if it was only eight minutes long like the others, then i might have liked it more. Also,it could have done without 'Gebrechlichkeit 2'. Those weaknesses aside, this still contains all the key ingredients that make burzum such a good band.

Yeah, when the drums come in is really one of those "shit just got real" moments. I was also quite blown away the first time I heard it. This could very well be my favorite Burzum album. It has imo the best production and the best vocals by faaaaaar. I really like how the vocals sound here thanks to the production.

It's hella blood-pumping indeed. I don't recall many Burzum tracks that has such effect.

Truth be told I haven't even finished the album :/ I just get to that song and then switch it, because I know that the rest can't be that good

I find the first 4 songs flat out amazing. The only reason I don't give this a strong 9 is because of the last two tracks that are unnecessary.
First track is simply a classic BM anthem, second one is blood-pumping and addictive as heroin, Third track shows more of that slightly melancholic vibe Burzum has at times and the fourth one is downright sinister.
You should definitely stop fucking around and give the full (read: first 4 tracks) a go without stop.

Will do on the bus ride home today.
that's the only bonus to having a long bus ride, getting to listen to an hours worth of music.

If I want to give a cd a dedicated listen I preffer the confort of my bedroom in complete darkness. But bussride is fine I guess... as long as there's no one in the buss or at least not anyone that makes too much noise.

I usually lay down and almost fall asleep
It's nice though, and it's not too loud.

When it comes to good albums, it's worthy to give them a go in many different environments.

Nice, my case isn't too bad either. around 90 min. Bus-Train-Bus to my university. Pretty calm overall. So I go with my discman with one long or two short cds.

I'm not discussing that, I agree. But I preffer my very first listen to be without any possible distractions.

Me too. Another thing I do is that I wait for the right kind of moment and mood, before I spin anything for the first time.

Have to agree with the Jesus Tod riff/drums coming in.... it's one of those special moments in metal that you can't even describe with words given the amount of awesomeness it emanates.
If only Rundgang... was 4 or 5 minutes long, this would be perfect. It's still my favorite Burzum with Det Som Engang Var

Indeed, I don't mind that song at all. It could have been 5 min and I wouldn't mind at all.

Epic album, you can hear its influences everywhere. Rundgang..... is indeed far too long, get a few minutes in and skip it, love the instrumental stuff on the rest of the album tho. the production on this is perfect for the sound, almost to the extent of being just as haunting as the actual music.
