The more I listen to Kreator, the more I like this band and despite what some people can say, I really believe that they're among the best Metal bands (probably better than some famous US Thrash bands…). Their last release "Enemy Of God" was for me one of the best, if not the best, releases of the year 2005 and even if the band didn't do any break during four years, with a legion of live performances, re-edition, DVD etc I think that a lot of people were awaiting this new release. After all, nothing is better than a good old Thrashy release of the German masters especially if it's good and if you cannot be disappointed…. "Hordes Of Chaos" is just an excellent album and proves one more time that Kreator is a real hit machine!

Power? I don't what your friend listened to but it surely is not "Hordes of Chaos". Hordes of Chaos is all thrash.

Indeed. It is surely not the best Kreator album but it has squat to do with Powermetal.

There is slight elements from melodeath/gothenburg in their recent works, but certainly not power metal. lol
This is a decent album, though I feel it's just a touch weaker than their first 2 "thrash comeback" efforts. There is some good stuff on it though, and "Demon Prince" is just an awesome Kreator track. On of their best, Id hasten to add! xD

"Violent Revolution" and "Enemy of God" also had a little Gothenburg touch but nothing from traditional Heavy Metal or Powermetal. Even for someone like me who has heavy standards, this is pushing it too far.
I would understand this comment about "sounding like power" about biteless Thrash like Overkill (it sounds awfully close to Powermetal on many parts) but the music Kreator are still doing now? No way.

Yes, all of their "thrash comeback" albums have had that slight touch of Gothenburg. Though, even on "Coma Of Souls" there was a fair bit of melody on there. Of course, that was before Gothenburg, but it's certainly not a new thing for them to be putting melody in with the thrash. xD
All I'm going to say about the Overkill comment, is that I don't agree with it at all. lol

Well, I dont agree that they sound weak, but you obviously have very specific tastes when it comes to thrash. I like some of the more extreme thrash, but not when it's highly generic. (ala "Eternal Nightmare" by Vio-lence, which I find to be immensely overrated)

Well, I dont agree that they sound weak, but you obviously have very specific tastes when it comes to thrash. I like some of the more extreme thrash, but not when it's highly generic. (ala "Eternal Nightmare" by Vio-lence, which I find to be immensely overrated)
Even if it's generic, I will always find extreme Thrash more appealing than weak sounding Thrash ala Overkill because I have no fondness for 'standard Thrash'.
Difference is I won't like it enough to drop money on albums.
As for Vio-lence and this album, it might be fast and raw but I find vocals weak and laughable (I would say they're just plain annoying and fucking suck - the kind of vocals that would completely spoil even the best Thrash album ever made).
That's my biggest problem with Thrash in general. How I utterly hate vocals most of the time. It seems as soon as vocals are of the clean kind, I hate them and think they don't fit in. That's also one of the reasons (there are others) I enjoy Teutonic Thrash but don't like Bay Area Thrash (and this is not because I'm mostly into Black Metal now, it was already like that in the 80s).

Well, I dont find Overkill weak sounding. Or much of "standard thrash" really. I actually find a lot of "extreme thrash" weak, because so many of those bands play in a very similar way, and a lot of those band's individual songs are very similar sounding which makes it boring for me to listen to. Anyways, thrash is classed as an extreme genre, so I just class thrash as thrash. Some bands I like, and some I don't. I dont really put more emphasis on it other than that.
Ive never seen the big deal about "Eternal Nightmare". lol All the songs and riffs sound way too similar to one another, and the vocals are awful. Like a very weak and watered down version of John Connelly's vocals. I dont have a problem with clean vocals, so that on it's own certainly couldn't put me off a band's music. Which is why I can enjoy albums like "The Legacy" and "Pleasure To Kill" equally. We all have our own tastes though, and preferences.  Certain guy's vocals I can dislike, but that's not because of their style, it's just that I don't like the individual voice. The only vocals as a whole that I cant stand in metal, are female vocals. Unless they happen to be of a very harsh death style variety.

i agree with you here mate. thrash is about angriness and violence (in the musical part - i am not talking about the lyrics). even metallica and the other bay area bands at their beginning were far More aggressive than they went on the next years. and when it comes to thrash i believe that teutonic is by far more enjoyable. of course you need to listen to a good teutonic thrash metal band in order to enjoy it. i am not saying that all are great...

It seems our tastes in Thrash are similar. My tastes in Thrash are very limited (my tastes in Black Metal are much more varied) but what I do enjoy, I really enjoy. And it's all that matters to me.
