After the sophomore opus of Moonsorrow "Voimasta Ja Kunniasta " in 2001, the band recorded Kivenkantaja (Stonebearer) in 2003. Well, I've bought it in early 2004, I chose it among thousands of albums, maybe the title called out to me, but whatever is the reason, it's perfectly done with its influences featuring extravagant, bombastic, heathen metal.

Great folk with BM elements. I'm not amazed by it though.

Yeah, in the last few weeks this album grew on me quite a lot. So now I am amazed by it. Damn, this is really highly enjoyable, cheery stuff.

Amazing album that brings you back to those times you have lost, as if you relived them. Words cannot describe the beauty that this album transpires.

I probably slightly prefer Varjoina... personally, but this album is pretty damn awesome. Alongside this, Varjoina... Voimasta..., and more, these guys really do lead the Nordic folk metal pack by some distance. Every song has something excellent about it, but Rauniolla is fantastic

The title track is as epic as it gets. Probably my personal favorite Moonsorrow song as well, on my favorite Moonsorrow album. A musical journey that one has to hear to believe. Immaculate.

Music to wander Scandinavian woodland in winter to. An epic experience from start to finnish.

9.3/10 for me - Raunioilla and Jumalten Kaupunki/Tuhatvuotinen Perintö are the stand-out songs, Unohduksen Lapsi is also great. Tuulen Tytär/Soturin Tie is a little weaker than the rest.

One of the best albums I have ever heard in my life, Kivenkantaja is way more than just your typical metal album. Voimasta ja kunniasta was a masterpiece in itself, but this album was their real shining diamond of musical greatness and "breakthrough" moment. Sucks that they went more black metal after this, but the rest is also killer stuff, not just this much killer.

Nah, while it might have been awesome back in the mid to late 2000's, nowadays there's so many cookie cutter black metal bands that it's not even funny anymore. Aside from some more eccentric albums the genre has mostly lost my interest, unlike maybe epic folk metal like early Moonsorrow that still feels fresh and cool. On the other hand these guys are so talented they could release a frigging dubstep album and it would still kill.

A Nice Guy
I just listened to this for the first time in years, I forgot just how good it really is, it's my second favourite Moonsorrow album just behind Voimasta ja kunniasta, although both are epic masterpieces
